Trade Deadline Day! News and Trade Tracker

Ian Cole was the first shoe to drop, so to speak, on Hockey Christmas.

3:24 p.m.: Minnesota defenseman Mike Reilly was traded to the Montreal Canadiens.

3:18 p.m.: Many sources expect that JT Miller will also be going to Tampa Bay in the McDonagh trade.

3:17 p.m.: Winnipeg acquires Joe Morrow.

3:16 p.m.: Patrick Maroon to the New Jersey Devils.

3:13 p.m.: Calgary receives Nick Shore from Ottawa.

3:08 p.m.: Friedman reports New York defenseman, Ryan McDonagh has been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

3:07 p.m.: Vegas acquires Tomas Tatar from Detroit.

3:06 p.m.: Elliott Friedman reports the Penguins have acquired depth-forward, Josh Jooris from Carolina.

2:53 p.m.: Multiple reports claim the Penguins have an interest in Montreal defenseman, Jordie Benn.

2:49 p.m.: Columbus acquires Thomas Vanek per Bob McKenzie.

2:44 p.m.: The Washington Capitals have “escalated efforts” to acquire Erik Karlsson before the 3 p.m. deadline.

2:22 p.m.: TSN reports that three teams have placed offers for Ottawa defenseman, Erik Karlsson. 

2:10 p.m.: Anaheim receives Islanders’ winger Jason Chimera in exchange for Chris Wagner.

2:10 p.m.: TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports San Jose has acquired Evander Kane. (Kane for 2019 conditional first-round pick, Dan O’Reagan and a 2020 4th Rd pick pick.)

2:09 p.m.: Josh Yohe reports the Penguins are interested in Matt Cullen.

1:58 p.m.: Josh Yohe reports that the Penguins are NOT in on McDonagh, conflicting with Sportsnet’s previous report.

1:54 p.m.: Blue Jackets acquire Ryan Kujawinski from Arizona in exchange for Jordan Maletta. Swapping 22 year-old prospects.

1:43 p.m.: Elliott Friedman reports that the Pittsburgh Penguins have inquired about the Rangers’ defenseman, Ryan McDonagh.

1:10 p.m.: John Shannon of Sportsnet confirms Anaheim and Florida’s interest in Montreal captain, Max Pacioretty.

12:26 p.m.: Vegas sends Brendan Leipsic to Vancouver for defenseman Philip Holm per TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

12:16 p.m.: Blues trade Paul Stastny to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a 1st and 4th round pick, along with prospect Erik Foley. St. Louis Blues Twitter Account, and Darren Dreger.

12:10 p.m.: WAIVER CLAIMS: Flyers claim Johnny Oduya, Avalanche claim Mark Alt and Calgary claims Chris Stewart.

12:07 p.m.: Ryan Hartman has been traded to the Nashville Predators per TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

-Hartman and a 2018 5th round pick for a 2018 1st and 4th round pick plus Victor Edjsell.

11:36 a.m.: Elliott Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports that Chicago is working on a deal with Nashville for Ryan Hartman. Nothing official yet.

10:47 a.m.: Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News says that, from his reporting, the Penguins are still very much in on rental winger Evander Kane.

Kane’s cap hit is $5.25 million, so to bring him aboard would take quite the give from Rutherford. The Penguins are currently less than $500,000 under the salary cap.

9:43 a.m.: Our first move of the day involves a former Penguin — as in, a very recent former Penguin.

Ian Cole is on the move again, to the Blue Jackets, per The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun and many others:

Cole, who just turned 29 five days ago, never got a chance to play for Ottawa. Now he’s back in the Metropolitan Division, with a good chance of getting into John Tortorella‘s lineup as a third-pairing guy, at least.

The Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch tweets Columbus sent AHL center Nick Moutrey and a third-round pick in 2020 for Cole’s rights through the end of the season.

7 a.m.: The day we’ve been waiting for has arrived. It’s Hockey Christmas, a.k.a., NHL trade deadline day.
