Before they have a name and before we know much more about the Seattle NHL franchise, it appears we will know their GM and he has strong ties to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators made a trade. The Penguins signed an RFA, but have two more to go. And William Nylander caused a small uproar in Toronto with a new jersey number.

First, Ron Francis appears close to being named as GM of the new Seattle NHL franchise (Sportsnet)

It’s a good move by Seattle. Francis built a solid core in Carolina. He may have been too conservative but a little reflection and growth could fix that in his second stint.

William Nylander wanted a fresh start in Toronto, so he changed his jersey number. A lot of fans have Nylander sweaters. So…Nylander is paying to have them changed over (Toronto Star)

Chicago found a taker for salary and dealt Artem Anisimov to Ottawa. The reaction in Chicago was positive (Score 670)

Josh Archibald is an Edmonton Oiler (Oil Rig)

Do anything cool, make a dollar, and somebody will want a share. A Philadelphia bar claims they started the “Gloria” trend and has sued. No, really. (USA Today)

Robby Fabbri filled the Stanley Cup with spaghetti and meatballs. Cool! Then let his dogs eat out of it. Still cool? Ken Campbell of the Hockey News says no. (St. Louis Game Time)

I’m not a big dog person or a pet guy and I know dog folks will scold me for this, but it does seem a little…ewww. However, I also know the Cup is cleaned. And…I know a few stories of where the Cup has been, and a dog eating out of it is FAR from the most unsanitary thing it has seen. We’ll leave it at that.
