A Letter From the Editor

As you may have noticed, Pittsburgh Hockey Now has included a subscription model into our business plan, called PHN Extra.

Hopefully, you’re able to navigate the hybrid system we’ve established. Some features will be available one day early to PHN Extra subscribers, some features will be exclusive. These features are in addition to the free content, game stories, analysis, podcasts and player features we provide on a daily basis. PHN Extra content will be for subscribers, everything else is free!

As with any change, we’ve received a little push back but I’m happy to report there hasn’t been much. Our marketplace understands professional content costs money to produce and distribute, and we’re grateful for that acknowledgment.

So, we’ve also made PHN Extra ad-free, at least from those annoying Google ads we all hated. If you are logged in, the ads should not be present and you should be able to access all of our PHN Extra content. Our local sponsors will still be present. We are also working to add other perks and benefits for our subscribers and will announce those as they become official.

The move to partial subscription was absolutely necessary to achieve appropriate revenues for long-term success. Great writers like Matt Gajtka and Shelly Anderson put extraordinary effort into their craft, and as professionals, they deserve to be compensated for their work. Sure, some blogs will offer game recaps or opinions, but we hope you value the knowledge, experience, and insight which professionals who have covered and lived inside the wonderful game of hockey can bring.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now produced more professional pieces of hockey content in February and March than anyone else. Matt and Shelly are amazing.

We’ll try to find the appropriate line between hiding too much of our content and giving too much away. We also hope you’ll bear with us as we aggressively promote the subscription service. Each ad brings more revenue which allows us to grow faster! And eat. Eating is important.

So, thank you. Thank you for clicking. Reading. Responding. Sharing. Arguing. Agreeing. And laughing along with us on this remarkable ride.

And, we’re just getting started. Game on!

Sincerely,

Dan Kingerski
