Penguins
(UPDATED) Nedeljkovic Leaves Game with Injury
There may yet be a roster spot for top goalie prospect Joel Blomqvist. Monday night, Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic was scheduled to play the entire game against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena but left the game at 13:04 of the first period.
Blomqvist relieved him for the final minutes of the first period.
Nedeljkovic faced a couple of close shots and appeared to stay down, grabbing his midsection. After the puck cleared the Penguins’ zone, Nedeljkovic knocked the net off the moorings and left the game. However, the broadcasters on the Red Wings stream didn’t notice.
According to the Penguins’ team reporter, Nedeljkovic skated down the tunnel and was not on the bench.
Last season, Nedeljkovic started the last 15 games of the season, and he posted a .902 save percentage.
UPDATE: Following the game, coach Mike Sullivan said Nedeljkovic would be evaluated for a lower-body injury on Tuesday, and the team will have more information then.
