The Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins go at it for a second straight night at PPG Paints Arena.

Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s Eastern Division battle in our Bruins vs. Penguins betting preview with odds, picks, and player prop predictions.

Bruins vs. Penguins Betting Pick (March 16, 2021)

Last night, the Penguins won their sixth consecutive game with a 4-1 victory over the Bruins.

Boston opened up the scoring with a power-play goal by Matt Grzelcyk before Pittsburgh roared back with a pair of goals late in the first period.

New FOX Bet players can bet $10 to win $50 (a 5x payout) on the Penguins to score at least one goal against the Bruins tonight. Get the offer right here.

Forward Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play tally in the second, while Jake Guentzel scored for the second time in as many games by picking up an empty-net goal to seal the victory.

Penguins Goaltender Tristan Jarry was stellar, making 42 saves on 43 shots faced to record his ninth win in his last 11 starts.

Tonight, both clubs will roll with backups in net. It is expected that Casey DeSmith will be between the pipes for the Penguins. Dan Vladar should get the call for the Bruins.

This season, DeSmith is 6-2 with a 2.23 GAA and a .911% save percentage. For Boston, Vladar has yet to start a game this season, spending most of the year on the taxi squad. He’s getting action now with injured starter Tuukka Rask still out.

Bets We Like With a Penguins Win

Bryan Rust to Score a Goal Anytime (+220, DraftKings)

Leading the Penguins with 90 total shots on goal, Bryan Rust has been one of the team’s top scorers with nine goals and 11 assists. The seven-year veteran has modest career numbers against Boston, with just four goals and four assists in 15 games.

Still, given his consistent activity and knack for getting pucks on net, at good odds, I like for him to sneak one through tonight.

Bets We Like With a Bruins Win

David Pastrnak OVER 3.5 Shots on Goal (-115, BetMGM)

Tied with forward Brad Marchand for the team lead with 12 goals, David Pastrnak presents a consistent scoring threat. With eight goals and 14 assists in 15 career games against Boston, I like the 24-year-old Czech native to get some solid looks at the net tonight, especially if the Bruins can create some power-play opportunities.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Full Game OVER 5.5 Goals (-120, DraftKings)

Yesterday’s matchup just fell short of the over, mostly in part to the sharp goaltending of Jarry, who almost completely shut down the Bruins’ offense.

In tonight’s game, the edge in net should once again go to Pittsburgh, with DeSmith in solid form, but the lean here is still on the over. That’s because the Penguins offense should have another strong night against the untested Vladar. The 23-year-old has a 2.01 GAA and a .923 save percentage for AHL Providence this season.

This feels like a good spot to take a shot with the over tonight.

Bruins vs. Penguins Prediction

This Penguins club continues to roll during an impressive winning streak. With the Bruins falling to 1-3-1 in their last five games, I expect these clubs keep moving in opposite directions. I’ll take the Penguins by a 4-2 final.
