Cross a Big Name Off the Penguins Coaching Search

The Pittsburgh Penguins coaching search is in its earliest stages but one highly sought coach will not be available.
Monday, University of Denver Pioneers coach David Carle essentially ended his candidacy for six of the open NHL jobs when he signed a new multi-year extension with Denver.
He previously pulled out of contention for the Chicago Blackhawks’ opening.
“I am honored to have the University’s support for our hockey program over the last seven years and into the future,” said Carle via the University press release. “Without their support and the support of our fans, alumni, and donors, nothing that we have accomplished would have been possible. The resources we have established have had a direct impact on the daily lives of current and future Pioneer hockey student-athletes, and we continue to raise the bar for success with these commitments.”

Carle, 35, has been a popular name on all coaching searches and was an assumed but unconfirmed candidate for other openings, including the Penguins.
Denver won the 2024 National Championship with current Penguins prospect Tristan Broz.
Not surprising. Good for him.
Smart man, good move for him and his family.
That’s ok. The new hire should have a proven track record of being HC in AHL, asst in NH, and developing young kids at both levels to elevate their skills. So gimme some LOVE. Mitch is my #1 choice. AHL record of 96-33-9. Won AHL coach of the year in back to back years with 2 different teams. Asst with the Caps past 2 years working with the D. Perfect background, outstanding results.
Todd Nelson.
