Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL free agent Josh Ho-Sang

It can only get better from here, right? Happy 2021 and good riddance to (expletive deleted) 2020. The NHL continues to work with the Canadian government, but the all-Canadian Division may not be the done deal we thought. The Pittsburgh Penguins are days away from training camp, and Team USA and Team Canada are on another collision course for a superpower showdown.

Matt Gajtka believes the Penguins will benefit from the stacked and packed East Division (PHN Video)

We hope Matt does a lot more of those informative little videos this season.

Team USA thumped Team Sweden and won Group B (Sporting News)

It’s a crying shame that Team USA is not receiving more coverage. The Sporting News was the only full recap we could find. The U.S. needs to embrace the WJC for the incredible tournament it is.

David Alter is covering the WJCs for TSN. Team Canada is the second-best team I’ve ever seen, behind only the 2005 version with Sidney Crosby, Corey Perry, Patrice Bergeron, et al… Canada spanked Finland (TSN)

The Canadian government has issued a quarantine exemption to NHL players returning to Canada for training camp on the grounds of “national interest” (Sportsnet)

However, the health ministers are still making the NHL’s life complicated. Alberta has approved the NHL games, but Manitoba still hasn’t signed off on the NHL’s plan (Sportsnet)

You probably know my stance on government bureaucrats who hold to their power and rules over people. Anyhoo…

Brent Burns was a guest start on Vikings, and Erik Karlsson says he’s finally healthy (San Jose Hockey Now)

Lou Lamoriello does not like Josh Ho-Sang. The Isles just aren’t happy with him. They didn’t even invite him to training camp (NYI Hockey Now)

If I were a GM, I’d happily take Ho-Sang. The kid needs a break. That’s all. But no, I don’t expect the Pittsburgh Penguins to be that team who gives it (I knew you would ask).

The Philadelphia Flyers have more defensemen than they need and are moving Sam Morin to LW. Morin said he’s “fighting for my career.” Wow (NBCsn Philadelphia)

Without Zdeno Chara, who is the next captain of the Boston Bruins? Everyone knew the answer (Boston Hockey Now)

2020 didn’t leave without taking one last bite — One of the Colorado Avalanche’s top prospects was hurt at the WJCs (Colorado Hockey Now)

2 Days to Training Camp.
