Phil Kessel made the NHL network ‘Top Wingers Right Now’ list at No. 13 and there were some glaring omissions. Dan’s Daily Links haven’t quite been daily as the hockey world has limped through August with nary a headline but there are some interesting tidbits to share. From the Twitter war between Ryan Kessler and Ryan Johansen which figures to spill onto the ice to Niklas Kronwall’s probable farewell tour, and the NHL position rankings, we have more than a few pieces to read.
Phil Kessel’s career year upped his standing in the game. 92 points are 92 points. The NHL network ranked Kessel, the 13th best winger in the game. Here are the rankings and a good debate. (NHL Network)
I would have had Filip Forsberg a bit higher, and I would have placed David Pastrnak ahead of Kessel. Miko Rantanen made the list at No. 17, which was mostly a product of pedigree. T.J. Oshie deserved a place on the list, probably ahead of Rantanen. (NHL Network)
There has been an escalating Twitter war between grinding Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Kessler and Nashville Predators big centerman Ryan Johansen. It started with a fight last spring, ramped up in the playoffs and of course, continued to where all fights end–Twitter. (Sportsnet)
NHL.com released their new fantasy rankings. For you poolies and fantasy players (me included) here are top 250 (NHL.com). Daniel Sprong made the list, but Max Domi and Alex Wennberg didn’t.
Niklas Kronwall told Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com that the end is near. Kronwall, 37, believes he must realistic about his future. I had never seen a defenseman be more aggressive than when Kronwall used to launch himself after the puck carrier on faceoffs. (NHL.com).
And, Scottie Upshall isn’t giving up the ghost just yet. He’s signed a PTO with Edmonton (TSN).
