Dan’s Daily Links: Opposition to NHL Return, Fleury Cracks ‘Em Up

Former Pittsburgh Penguins Colby Armrstrong and Marc-Andre Fleury

Happy Mother’s Day. And yes, you can all stop wishing me a Happy Mother’s Day, too. In the Daily Links, there is some opposition to the NHL return if it involves pod cities and being away from home. Sunday is the 50th anniversary of Bobby Orr leaping through the air after scoring the iconic Stanley Cup goal. And Colby Armstrong needled former Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Or was it Fleury needling Armdog?

The pair of former Penguins were on Sportsnet, where Armstrong is also a contributor. What’s it like being Fleury’s teammate and why is he almost always late? Have a watch

You’ll want to click on the full-screen square. Sportsnet doesn’t make it easy to share the videos, but I know you Marc-Andre Fleury fans will enjoy. The highlights are spectacular.

We ask a lot of professional athletes. In exchange for ungodly sums of money, they work out like demons for 11.5 months a year. They work on holidays, personal issues, and illness. When you and I might take a sick day and binge watch Ozark on Netflix, they’re in the gym. Or in a hotel room across the country.

I get the opposition. To many, being a hockey player is a job. My counter would be–guys, we need you. This will end, and sports will be the unifying force that leads us back to life.

Also, if you don’t return to play, you’re all going to lose ridiculous sums of money. (And us, too).
