NHL Trade Rumors Rasmus_Ristolainen_-_Buffalo_Sabres

We’ve got Pittsburgh Penguins trade rumors today in the links. I know serving these up is like sloppy joes and tots in the lunch line. The teams mentioned do line up well and have some history. Also, the NHL is quietly letting the allegations of Bill Peters’ racist comments drag on. Mitch Marner and Mike Babcock made up but Toronto media is exposing some of Babcock’s tactics. Jesse Puljujuarvi’s last chance to play in the NHL this season is fast approaching and Boston routed Montreal.

The inference and potential seemed obvious from the start. The Buffalo Sabres are on the prowl. They are waiting for a couple of teams dealing with players on IR. Sound like anyone you know? The Penguins trade rumors now include Elliotte Friedman tying the Penguins to Buffalo, which wants a scoring forward for a defenseman deal. (WGR 550)

It makes sense. Buffalo wants an impact move and the two teams could line up pending Jim Rutherford’s views on a couple of players, including Alex Galchenyuk and the future of Justin Schultz.

From Penguins trade rumors past, Jesse Puljujarvi has until Dec. 1 to sign in the NHL. Tic-Toc Clarice. Edmonton GM Ken Holland has talked to a few teams this week (Sportsnet)

Now, to the ugly stuff…

That “protege” is Bill Peters, the current and soon to be former coach of the Calgary Flames. Since those allegations were made on Monday night during the Penguins win over Calgary, we learned the words were used to describe the music Aliu played after practice or morning skates.

I’m generally not a fan of dredging up 10-year-old allegations, but…cmon, you just can’t say that stuff and keep your job as a coach. 2009 was not the dark ages and those words weren’t acceptable long before then. Peters would be wise to get ahead of this, publicly apologize (and really, really, mean it) and do it before the investigation is finished.

It’s a shame Aliu went through that. If he communicated his anger to the Chicago Blackhawks at the time, and the NHL finds evidence of such, we may have ourselves a full-blown scandal. And its about time. I’ve said this publicly before, hockey’s demand for conformity can lead to issues or friction with people who don’t come from the same background.

Here’s the latest on Peters who didn’t coach against Buffalo (Calgary Sun)

Now, it’s a shame that somehow Mike Babcock is being tied into this. There are no allegations or even whispers that Babcock has ever conducted himself in a biased way or used racist language. Babcock did some tough things in the locker room as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the association of Babcock’s name was wrong.

Concurrently, players are coming forward to express just how much they didn’t like Mike Babcock. Carlo Colaiacovo unloaded and admitted the Detroit leaders tried to get him fired every year (WDIV Detroit)
