Despite the NHL holiday roster freeze, a few outlets haven’t stopped looking at trade targets. Pittsburgh Hockey Now has looked at middle line winger help for the Penguins and will be re-analyzing the situation soon. Sportsnet took a gander at the rental defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but a few of the names would also fit if the Pittsburgh Penguins reshuffle their deck.

By the way–the Bud Moonshine rules for tourists and the oblivious in the Strip District (no walking three abreast, no meandering in the middle of the sidewalk, no stopping to huddle in the middle of the sidewalk, don’t stop in the flow of traffic to look at your cell phone, and so on…) also apply to the mall this weekend. For those of us who have been busier than a woodpecker on two poles, who are just now getting to the mall, please…GET OUT OF THE WAY!

I’m also not opposed to the mall instituting traffic lines and turning lanes. You walk on your right. This isn’t England. “Bunch of savages in this town.” Enough venting…

For the record, Pittsburgh Hockey Now wrote that Kris Letang was Norris Trophy-worthy about one month ago. This week, he only burnished those credentials. It’s not an advanced stat piece–but I do use a few to show just how good Letang has been (Pittsburgh Hockey Now/PHN Extra)

The trade deadline defenseman rentals (Sportsnet)

The Athletic thinks Jake Muzzin could be on the block–which is a name already connected to the Penguins (The Athletic)

Scott Burnside looks at the goalie trade market, Jimmy Howard especially. This isn’t linked because of the Penguins, but I know how yinz love your trade pieces (The Athletic)

And Ken Campbell at the Hockey News adds a bit more fuel to the Jeff Carter trade talk (The Hockey News)

And Larry Brooks takes a few jabs at the silly NHL “nobody really loses” point system while pushing the Rangers to sell (NY Post)

Enjoy the mall. And get out of my way!
