Dan’s Daily Notebook: Senators Clogging Brassard Trade Market

Published

on

It’s more than a touch of irony that the Ottawa Senators are the team which is clogging the trade market and perhaps lowering Derick Brassard’s value. The Pittsburgh Penguins are believed to have asked for Adam Lowry from the Winnipeg Jets, who balked. Ottawa’s Ross and Rachael routine (will they or won’t they) with Matt Duchene has a few teams waiting anxiously. Could they be more ironic?

TSN’s Insider Trading talked about Winnipeg going big–but waiting for Duchene. Mark Stone seems to be staying put. (TSN)

Also, the Insiders discussed the Chicago Blackhawks potentially moving Duncan Keith. A few weeks before the deadline seems to be an awkward time to ask a franchise stalwart if he’d like to remain or go. Such a decision could take weeks.

One of the Penguins scouts in Dallas made the trek to see the Stars AHL team last night, according to Shawn Shapiro:

Our friends at Sportsnet did a full analysis of last year’s trade deadline to determine the value of first-round picks on the trade market. A first round pick gets a good third line center but they did a full scope of the values. (Sportsnet)

What are the Colorado Avalanche waiting for? The team has the best top line in hockey but significant needs elsewhere. Darren Dreger believes they’re targeting Artemi Panarin (Nichols on Hockey)

Defenseman Justin Schultz participated in the Penguins practice yesterday. Schultz is prepping for the stretch run. Our Shelly Anderson filed this (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

John Tortorella is not a happy camper as the Blue Jackets losses are piling up. He unleashed another classic Torts rant (Yahoo)

The Capitals were honest, “We were tired.” Their bye week is over now but it makes the Penguins 2017 all the more impressive doesn’t it? (WaPo)

UPDATE: Penguins have canceled their morning skate. So we still have not see the Penguins tweak the power play or where Teddy Blueger may fit.

We’ll update the Notebook with news throughout the day. Check back!
