PHN reported the latest on the Pittsburgh Penguins sale and some external issues that could affect the process. The report was an appetizer to the big stories that could drop this week. The NHL hacked and whacked at the loopholes in their own salary cap rules, and their changes will be effective immediately. Also in the Daily, the Toronto Maple Leafs responded to the shock over fans’ threats to Mitch Marner, and more on the status of Carter Hart now that he’s been acquitted.

If anyone is having an issue with your subscription, let me know. Our tech people are still on the case, but if there are problems, I’d rather you yell at me than leave us.

The email plug-in is still a problem, too. There’s not much I can do as we unwind our old mix-and-match website construction for a streamlined professional site. I thought a more professional site was supposed to be easier?!

I’ll keep busting my hump for you; that much won’t change. In fact, I’m taking a ride today to see if I can catch a news story. Details to follow on X.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We’ve been speaking to a lot of people in and around the Penguins organization. Here’s the latest we’re hearing, including a hint of complication with land development. But we weren’t stopping there. It’s a big week for the team, including potential Penguins trades.

The NHL made sweeping changes effective immediately. Long-term injured reserve and the salary cap got a good tweak. Here are the changes and how they affect the Penguins.

Steelers Now: Here we go–the five bold predictions for the Pittsburgh Steelers season.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now (+): The weekly Q&A for subscribers. Is an Oneil Cruz trade possible? More on Jack Suwinski, Andrew McCutchen, and more Pittsburgh Pirates questions.

NHL Rumors, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLTradeRumors.me: First, Carter Hart. A localized Alberta podcast has more background. Hart is working out with other NHL players who vouched for him, and an NHL Network Analyst reported that four teams are interested if the NHL reinstates him.

I think I’ve stated this before. The judge’s ruling and the effort she took to–in my mind–exonerate several of the players held a lot of sway with me. I’ve been able to find details about the testimony and event that were not initially part of most reporting, or not emphasized, that gave me confidence in the acquittal. However, in a world lived in a public square, Hart will be vilified wherever he goes, and I don’t see it letting up.

Sportsnet: After Mitch Marner’s stories about death threats that were serious enough to involve the police and fans violating his privacy following the Maple Leafs’ playoff loss, general manager Brad Treliving was forced to speak out about the organization’s commitment to their players’ safety.

I’ve seen some of those types of people. Heck, I was even the subject of one of those people. On my next Live Chat, ask me about it. I’ll tell the story with humor, and I made a joke of it live on the air as it happened numerous times over the course of months, but in reality, it wasn’t funny, and I could have been hurt.

Frank Seravalli X: The NHL reporter says the Vegas Golden Knights and Jack Eichel are working toward a new contract extension.

Philly Hockey Now: It’s the month hockey season begins. Will James asks fans what excites them about the Philadelphia Flyers’ season.

New Jersey Hockey Now: James Nichols did the story on the recent U23 organizational rankings and where the New Jersey Devils fit.

I must confess, I skipped doing that story with a Penguins prospects angle because I was a bit incredulous about the player rankings, such as putting no Penguins in the top 100, and Rutger McGroarty 144th, some 26 spots behind Emil Pieniniemi, 20 back of Will Horcoff, and 38 back of Harrison Brunicke.

Florida Hockey Now: There was a turning point and one the fans should celebrate. As George Richards writes, yesterday was the fifth anniversary of the Florida Panthers hiring GM Bill Zito.

Montreal Hockey Now: Since we’ve mentioned Carey Price as a potential Penguins trade candidate, and some have questioned the salary cap gymnastics and Canadiens end of that, here is Marc Dumont’s thorough exposition of the breaking CBA changes and how they affect the Montreal Canadiens (and a Price trade).
