Pittsburgh Penguins trade rumors Pittsburgh Penguins Matt Murray

Former famous and infamous Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ulf Samuelsson is back in the NHL. TSN took an interesting angle on the Ottawa Senators acquisition of former Penguins goalie Matt Murray. Evgeni Malkin is again up for the best goal of the 21st century, and when will the next NHL season begin?

If you’ve not been following the weekly Off the Record column on the Hockey Now outlets, you’re missing out. The more we do it, the more sources are willing to chat, “off the record,” too.

Our weekly Monday night installment — When will next season begin? And which team has doubled back for Erik Haula? (PHN+)

For the second time in three days, an Evgeni Malkin jaw-dropping goal is nominated for “Goal of the 21st Century.” Today, Malkin is up against Connor McDavid. Go vote (Sportsnet)

Don’t forget how blessed we have been to watch these hockey Rembrandts for 15 years and counting.

If you are a Pittsburgh Penguins fan over 35, you remember Ulf Samuelsson. The Boston Bruins and Boston President Cam Neely will never forget. Ulf has been a successful assistant coach, and he’s back in the NHL (Florida Hockey Now)

TSN’s Travis Yost called Ottawa’s trade for former Penguins goalie Matt Murray “low risk.” Here’s his argument that Ottawa took a low risk for a big reward (TSN)

We’ll agree to disagree with Travis. Paying Murray $6 million isn’t a small risk, though giving up one of a handful of second-round picks and a middling prospect is not much to spend.

Murray’s next chapter will be as interesting to me as Marc-Andre Fleury’s move to Vegas. Murray’s mental set is still top-notch when he’s dialed in, but he’s lacked that surly edge for a while.

Another jersey leak has been debunked. The Boston Bruins “pooh-bear” atrocity will NOT be coming back. However, it looks like THIS jersey will (Boston Hockey Now)

There’s not much in the links today. Blame the hockey journos hitting the couch and the world for preventing the NHL’s ability to set plans for 2020-21.

Enjoy the sunshine.
