Dan’s Daily: Wild Talk to Rossi; Canada Goalie Battle; Penguins Ownership

The icy stalemate in the land of 10,000 lakes might be thawing as the Minnesota Wild and Marco Rossi are talking again. The NHL trade chatter might yet include one of the LA Kings’ young defensemen, but the Kings may say goodbye to Anze Kopitar. The Team Canada goalie battle is real and wide open, the Chicago Blackhawks splashed cash on a youngster, and we dove into the potential Pittsburgh Penguins sale.
Thanks for the good live chat yesterday. To preemptively answer some of the comments I get when folks miss them–I didn’t realize I would have time for one until later morning and quickly scheduled it before I had second thoughts.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The live chat. If you want the bareknuckled Penguins ownership talk, you can go to 13:00 to begin. We did a full table of contents on this one, and there is some past knowledge that I’m burdened by regarding the potential Penguins sale.
Steelers Now: Uh oh. The Steelers’ backup QB struggled, but others probably won roster spots in the final preseason game. Here are Derrick Bell’s duds and dudes from the Steelers game.
Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Radical realignment. It might be coming to baseball, and now that the DH is no longer a dividing line, we could see some real movement for the Pirates division.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
TSN: Take Marco Rossi off the trade block, for now? Reports indicate that the two sides are again talking.
Chicago Hockey Now: WOW. Penguins rookie Rutger McGroarty’s former University of Michigan teammate Frank Nazar just got a heft payday very early in his career from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Yardbarker: I hate using an aggregator, but I also know you don’t want to watch an hour-long video (oh, wait?!). Michael Russo was on fire this week and also reported that the LA Kings considered trading young defenseman Brandt Clarke, and might still do so.
Note to my industry colleagues: If you get a good nugget in your podcast or video, WRITE ABOUT IT IMMEDIATELY! If you search for the above story, none of the clicks do not go to the original outlet.
Sportsnet: Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong flung open the doors and said the goaltending battle is the most open for Team Canada.
CBC: After the trial judge evicerated their case, the crown (prosecution) announced they will not appeal the acquittals of the five Team Canada players accused of sexual assault.
Reinstatement is coming. I’m not looking forward to that social media firestorm, but legally, and with the judge’s near exoneration for several of the players, it is coming.
The Athletic ($): Poor Jack Roslovic. He’s the premier free agent left, but is still on the market, and the Canucks seem to have cooled on him, too.
Montreal Hockey Now: Here is the final list. This is some gaggle of young players–the Top 20 Montreal Canadiens prospects.
