Sullivan Offers Little on Surprise Malkin Injury
Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was a surprise no-show for warmup Tuesday before the Penguins faced the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena.
Even coach Mike Sullivan seemed surprised by the situation.
Cody Glass slid from the left wing to second-line center in Malkin’s absence. Adding to the intrigue was Malkin’s full participation in the team’s morning skate at the UPMC Lemieux Complex.
Adding to the cloudy situation, not even coach Mike Sullivan had much to offer. Sullivan uncharacteristically punted a housekeeping question following the Penguins’ 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus.
“I don’t know when it happened, and I don’t have anything else to add to it other than what the team put out,” was all Sullivan offered.
The team announced prior to the start of the first period that Malkin had an upper-body injury and was out day-to-day.
Malkin played the first 41 games of the season and Tuesday was the first game Malkin missed since the 2021-22 season. Malkin has 32 points, including eight goals in 41 games this season.
At least Glass hustled.
so many Geno apologists. His time is past. We need a second line center and a new voice in the room.
Absolutely!
Well Geno seemed to be checked out for quite a few games now. Upper body injury, lack of heart, whatever. Wish the Pens could’ve got lucky like the Craps did with Oshie and Backstroms old age injuries so we could clear some cap space….I’m talking to Letang and Geno and throw in Karlson too
