Finally. Pickering ‘Pumped’ for Penguins Moment; ‘I Know What to Do’ (+)
The day began with shades of Pittsburgh Penguins prospects past. A couple of decades ago, the Penguins’ wunderkinds Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang would linger on the ice long after practice and morning skates until coach Michel Therrien would send them home.
Tuesday morning, 2022 first-round pick Owen Pickering and 2024 second-round picks Harrison Brunicke and Tanner Howe lingered on the ice for another 45 minutes after the morning skate. The young men weren’t working on the finer points of their games but instead snapping one-timers, goofing off with different goal cells, and generally enjoying the game of hockey like a group of kids with their careers in front of them.
The enthusiasm was contagious and all three are on the roster for Tuesday night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres. For Pickering, it will be a first.

Howe and Brunicke got their first taste of playing against NHL’ers on Saturday in the Penguins’ 7-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. At long last, Pickering will get his moment under the bright lights of PPG Paints Arena.
