Flyers vs Penguins Betting Prediction (March 4, 2021)

Pittsburgh Penguins NHL trade deadline, Evgeni Malkin, Kasperi Kapanen

The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins are set to do battle once again tonight in Pittsburgh.

Let’s take a look at this Eastern Division clash from a betting perspective in our Penguins vs. Flyers betting preview with odds, player prop picks and predictions.

Flyers vs. Penguins Betting Prediction

The Penguins scored five goals in the last 40 minutes of play on Tuesday night to beat the Flyers 5-2 in front of over 2,800 fans at PPG Paints Arena. It was the first game that the Penguins played in front of home fans in nearly one full calendar year.

Winger Kasperi Kapanen scored two goals in the second period and Bryan Rust picked up the game-winning goal. He added an assist to help carry the offense that was missing star Sidney Crosby, who is back for tonight’s game after being cleared from the NHL COVID protocol.

Carter Hart continues to struggle between the pipes for the Flyers, making just 22 saves over 27 shots faced, and dropping to 3-3-1 in road game this season with a 3.85 goals-against and .881% save percentage. Unsurprisingly, Philadelphia will turn to Brian Elliott tonight.

Flyers vs. Penguins Odds

Here are the lines for Flyers vs. Penguins at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Spread: Flyers (-1.5 +220); Penguins (+1.5 -275)
Moneyline: Flyers (-109); Penguins (-107)
Over/Under: Over 6 (-114)/Under 6 (-107)

Bets We Like With a Penguins Win

Bryan Rust to Score a Goal Anytime (+210, DraftKings)

Leading the Penguins with 74 total shots on goal, Bryan Rust has been one of the team’s top scorers with seven goals and ten assists this season. The 28-year old Michigan native now has four goals and six assists in 17 career games against the Flyers after his two-point performance on Tuesday.

Even with Crosby out, I like his recent activity and expect him to find the back of the net once again tonight.

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Flyers Team Total OVER 3.5 Goals (+120, DraftKings)

The Philadelphia Flyers can’t afford to play slowly against this Pittsburgh squad tonight. They need to take advantage of their weakened defensive units and goaltending by cycling the puck down low in the Penguins’ offensive zone and getting traffic to the net in front of goalie Tristan Jarry.

Look for things to open up a bit more with both clubs as the Flyers start taking more shot chances.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

Full Game OVER 6 Goals (-114, DraftKings)

This game sailed over the total on Tuesday, largely due to the Penguins’ offense getting great chances to beat Carter Hart over the latter two periods of the game.

I expect Pittsburgh to attack in the same fashion, but this time the Flyers will counter and utilize their own speed and skill to go the other direction.

These teams will need to rely on purely outscoring their opponent in this showdown, as the defenses have been somewhat inconsistent of late. Look for another over player to cash in tonight.

Flyers vs. Penguins Pick

Philly has played solid hockey lately, but hit a bump in the road on Tuesday night, mostly due to some defensive laps and unstable play of Carter Hart.

I still expect to see a high-scoring contest, but I like the Flyers to get revenge with a 5-3 victory tonight against their rivals.
