Emil Larmi Pittsburgh Penguins goalie fight

Late in the second period of the Wheeling Nailers and Indianapolis Ice ECHL scrap, a line brawl nearly broke out. However, as things calmed down Penguins goalie prospect Emil Larmi flared up.

Larmi and Indianapolis forward Michael Doherty began throwing punches. Technically, Larmi didn’t drop the mitts, he dropped the trapper, but he and Doherty had a go.

You can see the video here:

Larmi and Doherty were not given fighting majors but given roughing minors. Larmi received two minutes and Doherty was given a double minor for tangling with the goaltender.

Emil Larmi, 23, made his 10th appearance for Wheeling on Thursday night. The Penguins signed the Finnish goalie last summer after his team won the Finnish league championship. He played a few games during the Prospect Challenge in September and was in training camp with the Penguins. However, he stumbled in WIlkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL this season and was sent to the ECHL in December.

Larmi is 4-5-0 but has a .921 save percentage.

Wheeling trailed Indianapolis 3-1 when the Larmi channeled his inner Ron Hextall.
