The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation announced on Tuesday it will auction special green St. Patrick’s Day jerseys with each player’s name and number. The proceeds will benefit local charitable efforts, including food banks and other community groups working on behalf of those impacted by coronavirus COVID-19. The auction will also include autographed St. Patrick’s Day pucks.

From the Penguins Press Release:

The Penguins were scheduled to wear the jerseys in warmups before their game against the New York Islanders on Sunday, March 15. However, the NHL postponed the game as part of the league-wide shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The auction will begin on March 17th and run through March 24th.

“Our green jerseys, which are unique each season, have always been very popular with our fans,” said Jim Britt, executive director of the Penguins Foundation. “We thought that this auction might be one small way that the Penguins, the foundation and our fans can come together to assist our community.”
