(UPDATED) Jan Rutta Late Scratch, Listed ‘Day to Day’
The Pittsburgh Penguins defense got one back but lost another Monday night, as Marcus Pettersson returned to the lineup after missing a couple of games due to illness, but right-side defenseman Jan Rutta was a late scratch.
Mike Sullivan said after the Penguins’ 4-3 overtime victory against Anaheim that Rutta has an “upper-body” injury and is considered “day-to-day.”
He did not elaborate.
Rutta took the game-day skate, but has been dealing with a slight injury which required a maintenance day last week. His absence meant the Penguins were without their top three right-side defensemen, including Kris Letang and Jeff Petry.
Petry skated with the team in a non-contact jersey Monday, and Sullivan said Letang would re-join the team “within a day or so.”
Mark Friedman took Rutta’s spot in the lineup and was paired with Pettersson.
