The starstudded Pittsburgh Penguins have been wracked by injuries in the 2019-20 season and understandably, the Penguins aren’t up for many of the 2020 NHL Fan’s Choice Awards. In fact, no Penguins player is up for an award, but that doesn’t mean the Penguins were shutout on nominations.

Enter, Alex Letang.

Alex, the precocious offspring of Penguins defenseman Kris Letang who owned the NHL All-Star weekend with a series of amusing media interviews, is nominated for video of the year.

To no one’s surprise, former Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury now of the Vegas Golden Knights posted this sprawling, diving glove save for candidate for Save of the Year

Fans can vote on 20 categories through June 1 on the NHL’s special website. Fans can also share their selections across their social platforms by using #NHLFanChoice.

According to the NHL, the winners will be announced on June 3. Also, new this season former Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes player and current hockey podcast king Paul Bissonette will be the online host of the awards presentations. Bissonnette will announce and discuss the winners.

Technically, Iceburgh and PPG Paints Arena are also in the running for Best Mascot and Best Building. However, the NHL nominated all mascots and all buildings; fans can pick from all 31 options.

“With new categories and a new host, we’re excited to give our passionate fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite NHL moments across social media,” said Heidi Browning, NHL EVP & Chief Marketing Officer. “The 2020 Fan Choice Awards showcase our players’ personalities and provides a unique look at their lives, on and off the ice. Our fans are enthusiastic about the teams and players they root for and the NHL Fan Choice Awards allows us to continue engaging them in entertaining ways.”
