Dan’s Daily: Buyers, Sellers, Small Trades, & Penguins Potentials

PHILADELPHIA — It seems we kicked off a stir in the national media on Monday with some Pittsburgh Penguins trade talk. Dave Molinari also drew some parallels to things you may recognize. The NHL trade chatter is becoming clearer, with buyers, sellers, and one team that might go all-in. Florida is waiting on a Matthew Tkachuk update, but the news might not be catastrophic. And the Anaheim Ducks made a minor trade that might be a signal of bigger things to come.
I’ve officially become one of those lazy roadtrippers. I used to race the clock like I’d win money, but I think I stopped three times between Pittsburgh and Philly, once for gas, once for lunch with an Aunt Annie’s pretzel and a giant Diet Coke, and once for…well, you can figure that out.
There’s a restaurant around the corner that I couldn’t get into. Dan Dan in Philadelphia did not have a seat to accommodate Dan, so Dan Dan was minus a Dan, but they didn’t seem to mind losing Dan.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We published early in the morning, and by midday, several stories in the national media were along the same lines. After watching the Four Nations tournament and then the last two games, we came to one conclusion: There’s a disconnect, and it’s time to trade Erik Karlsson.
Dave Molinari held the Penguins up to a mirror. You probably recognize what you see, but not from this angle. I’ll let Dave explain further in his Penguins analysis.
Steelers Now: Here we go–the Quarterback news you probably want to read. Yep, the Steelers are interested in Matthew Stafford.
NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now
Sportsnet: We’re less than two weeks to the trade deadline. It’s crunch time now. Sportsnet has the interesting buyers, sellers (including the Penguins), and the tweeners.
Florida Hockey Now: OK, it’s not terrible news yet, but it’s not great news. Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice is waiting for an official verdict but says Matthew Tkachuk will play this year.
Detroit Hockey Now: It’s a small move, but it might be a big…BIG…domino fall leading to the trade deadline. The Anaheim Ducks snagged goalie Ville Husso for future considerations, but that only means the Detroit Red Wings cleared a third goalie and $4.75 million off their books. Here are the details of the Red Wings trade.
TSN Overdrive: Mikko Rantanen is hesitant to sign in Carolina. So, will the Hurricanes flip the star winger to recoup something before they lose him for nothing?
TSN Video: The Winnipeg Jets have won 10 in a row. It seems like it’s now or never for the frozen tundra to get a Stanley Cup parade. Will Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff push his chips to the middle of the table and go all-in?
Chicago Hockey Now: Seth Jones. Ryan Donata. Pat Maroon. Alec Martinez. The Chicago Blackhawks’ struggling rebuild still has some sought-after players. Greg Boysen has the latest Blackhawks trade hub.
Philly Hockey Now: I think these draft questions also apply to the Penguins because the Penguins have a better spot than the Flyers. Will James got a lot of NHL Draft question in his Q&A. Check out the latest Flyers analysis.
