Dan’s Daily: Metro Teams Interested in J.T. Miller, Kessel Rips Coyotes

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins. NHL trade, J.T. Miller, Vancouver Canucks

In late August, finding hockey news can be like getting your hand stuck in the Pringles can. This year is a little different, as the volume of news is a bit better. The NHL trade chatter around J.T. Miller has cooled, but our colleague Rob Simpson reports two Metro Division GMs are still trying to find the right combination for a deal. Phil Kessel had a parting shot for the Arizona Coyotes and their culture. We rolled out the new Pittsburgh Penguins prospect list, which has interesting implications for next summer.

Full marks if you get the movie reference above. A little word of advice, my friend. Sometimes, you have to let those hard-to-reach chips go.

Only a couple of weekends left in summer. Use them well! I’ll see ya up North. For you fellow wanderers, there’s a little town about 15 miles outside of Oil City and Titusville called Tionesta. It’s about an hour and 45 minutes from Pittsburgh if you take the highways. There’s not even a main street in Tionesta, but there’s a kayak rental spot, and a makeshift town square. They laid down gravel and lined up 10 sheds to house small local businesses, including Happy Cow BBQ and Broken Straw Winery. There’s even a little bakery. Get the fritos on your pulled pork and have some Mello Ello (a shockingly good white wine that has CBD). Maybe get yourself a Bigfoot T-shirt. You’re welcome.

Vancouver Hockey Now: The trade talk that won’t go away. The situation without a resolution. J.T. Miller. Rob Simpson reports two GMs are still at the table. NHL trade talk.

Florida Hockey Now: It might be the end of the line for Jumbo Joe Thornton. The 43-year-old played in only 34 games last season and his family said goodbye to Florida via Instagram. It’s been a helluva ride, if it’s over. Florida Panthers.

Vegas Hockey Now: Phil Kessel sounded motivated again after signing with VGK. He also knocked the Coyotes’ lack of desire to win. Ouch. Full story. Vegas Golden Knights.

Washington Hockey Now: Dylan Strome is adding a few moves to the arsenal and it looks pretty good. Sammi Silber notes, THIS is why Dylan Strome could excite the Washington Capitals.

My dad had a hunting cabin in Tionesta for many years. Nice place.

I wouldn’t say that Kessel “rips” the Coyotes, it was more “Kessel makes observation ” about the Coyotes

Exactly. He’s not bashing the Coyotes. Pretty obvious we don’t intend to win. We’re tearing it down to the foundation and stockpiling picks.

That’s not an insult, that’s an accurate observation.

It really seems like a mis managed team. Are they trying to win? Seems like they are in a constant state of rebuilding and let good players go while taking underperforming high salary players from other teams instead of signing good players. Its a matter of opinion i guess lol

I’d love to see any NHL team in a 5000 seat arena (the same size as my local collegiate ice arena). It’d be awesome to be that close. 🙂

I guess we’ll learn over the upcoming seasons as they start/continue to use all those draft picks. But I still don’t understand all the talk about trading Chychrun.

Exactly! Most teams that are trying to win aren’t looking to trade their #1 defenseman. Kessel’s remark is spot on.

After the Coyotes bent over backwards to keep 81’s “iron man” streak alive it seems petty for Phil to throw shade their way.

Was it not true? Also, did they Coyotes have anyone better to replace him in the lineup? Personally, i respect a player that speaks their mind.

Dan a few days ago you wrote that the Penguins were Fenway Sports Groups best chance at next championship. It raised my eyebrows. Just wonder if you happened to see the Liverpool score today?

My bad. Guess it was Dave. Still doesn’t take a rhodes scholar to recognize Liverpool is the real cash cow and their success or failure does now haveramifications for the Penguins.
