Dan’s Daily: Islanders Trade Imminent? Penguins Not-So Easy Decisions

Published

on

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nazem Kadri and New York Islanders trade

Start the clock. Trusted NHL insider John Shannon said he expects the other shoe to drop this week, which includes the New York Islanders trades and finally making the Nazem Kadri signing official. National Hockey Now family has already tied the Islanders to Montreal Canadiens on the NHL trade market, but several teams are known to be interested in Anthony Beauvillier. Juggernaut Team USA was upset at the World Juniors. The Philadelphia Flyers’ strength doesn’t stack up well, the Washington Capitals prospect pool is deeper than it should be, and the Pittsburgh Penguins have an easy decision until it is not so easy.

Team USA losing is a massive disappointment. That team was so good.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Sports Now PGH

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have nine defensemen. It’s an easy decision to send the newly acquired Ty Smith to the WBS Penguins…until it isn’t so easy. Pittsburgh Penguins.

Steelers Now: Kenny Pickett with the first team? I saw the seeds being sewn on Monday in Latrobe when I trolled the sidelines, but that’s a big step for the rookie. BIG. Pittsburgh Steelers.

Alan Saunders took Devin Bush to task. Bush’s comments were shortsighted and misguided. Ouch! Steelers.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Our Cody Patanko rolled through the Pirates farm system for his full report. The top 30 Pittsburgh Pirates prospects.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

NYI Hockey Now: John Shannon is one of the stalwarts of the NHL insider game. He doesn’t report lightheartedly. Shannon says the Islanders’ moves could finally break this week. The NHL trade market is stirring. New York Islanders.

Some day I’ll tell you the incredibly awkward story of him appearing on my Sportsnet show while he was on HNIC…and the 5 seconds of total silence as he didn’t find my little ribbing to be funny…at all.

TSN: Team USA was 4-0. Never trailed in the tournament. Logan Cooley and USA got bounced by Czechia. Brutal loss.

Pro Hockey Rumors: Derek Stepan signed a PTO in Carolina?!

Sportsnet: Toronto Maple Leafs contract talks with Rasmus Sandin have hit a rut. They “are going nowhere.”

Also, the Chicago Blackhawks signed former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman and Stanley Cup winner Jack Johnson.

Philly Hockey Now: One of the Flyers’ strengths should be in goal. Sam Carchidi put the Flyers goalies and their performance on the table against other teams. The results aren’t so good…How do the Philadelphia Flyers compare?

Washington Hockey Now: Major steals? Sammi Silber went through the Capitals prospect system and found there is some NHL talent on the way. Five major steals for the Washington Capitals.

Detroit Hockey Now: Dylan Larkin snubbed as a top-20 center in the NHL? Yikes. Detroit Red Wings.

Vegas Hockey Now: All righty– a couple of our young gun writers got together to roundtable the NHL trade market. Should GM Kelly McCrimmon go after Semyon Varlamov? Vegas Golden Knights trade proposal.

Calgary Hockey Now: Everything must fit after the Flames had THE wildest summer of any NHL team. So how about inconsistent but talented Dillon Dube on the top line? Calgary Flames.

San Jose Hockey Now: Last but certainly not least — how about replacing Brent Burns with … P.K. Subban? Does he fit with the San Jose Sharks?
