Dan’s Daily: Eichel Turns Up Heat on NHL Trade Market; Flyers ‘Unacceptable’

NHL trade, Jack Eichel, Pittsburgh penguins

After a summer of asking to be traded and mounting frustration, a source’s cryptic words came to fruition. The most anticipated move on the NHL trade market took an unexpected turn that could lead to the long-awaited conclusion. We looked at the evolution or de-evolution of the game. The changing Metropolitan Division could dramatically affect the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher addressed part of that story when he said the Flyers struggles took years off his life.

Looking at the lurch towards physicality and the arms race against Tom Wilson is spawning a few conversations.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: From Tom Wilson to the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers, the Metro added toughness. The game is changing and de-evolving. That affects the Pittsburgh Penguins, dramatically.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: Jack Eichel fired his agent and hired the high-powered super agent, Pat Brisson. You may recognize Brisson as the agent for Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Nathan MacKinnon. The goal isn’t a new contract but to finally get traded.

Boston: Sources told Jimmy Murphy on Wednesday night that things were going to heat up. Now we know what they meant. Boston is one of the teams still in the Eichel NHL trade sweepstakes, but is Brisson good or bad for the Bruins’ hopes?

Philly: The Flyers unraveling caused big changes this summer. GM Chuck Fletcher was honest–it took years off his life.

Washington: We all have our journey. For some, it’s tougher than others. Our Sammi Silber and her mom bonded over…hockey. A wonderfully personal and honest story.

NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares suffered a nasty concussion and knee injury in Game 1. He said, “he is doing fantastic.”

The Hockey News: Teddy Blueger popped a goal, and Latvia is a step closer to qualifying for the Olympics. The South Korea team, coached by former Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup winner Jim Paek, was eliminated.

Fan-Sided: Denmark eliminated South Korea. Nikolaj Ehlers scored six points.

Montreal Gazette: Angst in Montreal as GM Marc Bergevin has not yet replaced Shea Weber or the departed Philip Danault. Could Montreal miss the playoffs?

From our cousins at Steelers Now — The Steelers were pounded by Carolina 34-9, but here’s QB Dwayne Haskins from the locker room on his slow start and strong finish.

Enjoy the weekend. Hockey begins soon. The Jack Eichel sweepstakes should pick up. The boys in Boston are watching closely and have some people on the inside feeding us good intel, which has been days or weeks ahead of the pack. I still like the Vegas Golden Knights chances, but I like Bill Guerin and the Minnesota Wild, too.

Buffalo has to lower the price. It’s not like they can repair the relationship, and Eichel needs to have his procedure done sooner than later.
