Dan’s Daily: Flyers Free Fall, Hall Ready to Leave Buffalo

NHL trade rumors, Brandon Tanev, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers

The good news for the Pittsburgh Penguins was a double shot on Thursday night, even as bad news cascaded over their roster. The Penguins’ injury news worsened, but their closest rival is headed downhill faster than running start at slip-and-slide. The Penguins earned two points against the Buffalo Sabres as the Sabres prized free-agent signee said he’s open to being on the NHL trade block.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We’ll start with the Penguins, who beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0. Here are the full story and the Penguins gold stars.

In his first game, Czech rookie Radim Zohorna scored his first NHL goal.

Kasperi Kapanen will be out for a while.

And Buffalo roughed up Sidney Crosby. It had an effect. The mugging of Sidney Crosby cannot continue.

NHL Trade Talk:

When a player says he’s open to trades, that’s the equivalent of a face tattoo that says, “Get me outta here.”

Sportsnet: Buffalo winger Taylor Hall is open to a trade.

CBC: The Canadian government has surprisingly acquiesced to the NHL and shortened the quarantine time for NHL players arriving across the border to seven days.

The move makes total sense, and it could be even less. However, the Canadian government has been far more restrictive/cautious (choose your adjective to reflect your views).

The border restriction is a huge deal for the NHL trade talks. Canadian teams in the North Division can be a tad more patient.

TSN: The latest on Kyle Palmieri and what the Edmonton Oilers may be shopping on the NHL trade market for.

National Hockey Now:

Philly: The Philadelphia Flyers are hapless right now. Last week, they were blown out by the Rangers. On Thursday night, they were again–BLOWN OUT by the Rangers, 8-3.

The Flyers are 10 POINTS behind the Penguins with only two games in hand. The GM is issuing threats and admissions, and the team is finding a way to the bottom.

NYI: The New York Islanders are the Boston Bruins kryptonite. On Thursday, the Islanders won their fifth game against Boston this season.

Vegas: A TERRIBLE second period doomed Vegas in the Golden Knights 5-1 flatline loss to Colorado

San Jose: Guess what? The San Jose Sharks are suddenly a fast team. They beat LA, but Sheng Peng realized San Jose is getting fast.

Boston: Tuukla Rask in. Tuukka Rask right back out again…
