Dan’s Daily: Penguins Sustainability, Historic Canucks Collapses

NHL trade rumors, Pittsburgh Penguins, Jason Zucker, Kasperi Kapanen

Which Pittsburgh Penguins players can continue their solid starts, and who will cool? The Vancouver Canucks are on a historic run that might cost Bruce Boudreau his job and force Jim Rutherford into action. The Montreal Canadiens are shopping for defensemen on the NHL trade market. Colorado Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog is out for months and the nine overreactions for the early NHL season.

The cascading Montreal trade chatter makes the Hextall-Hughes convo on Monday night a little more interesting.

I’m also looking for a new show to binge. I just finished Chuck and loved it, but network shows rarely get it right. I’ve got the eight-day West Coast trip coming up. Suggestions are appreciated (though I am a bit of a TV snob).

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Since I referenced the West Coast trip, I hope you’ll support PHN. I’m headed west. Our Steelers crew is headed to Miami. We’re working hard to bring you the best coverage available. Subscribe and get exclusive coverage of all three pro sports teams. Subscribe to PHN+

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Teddy Blueger is not yet ready, and the lines stayed the same. The PK is making progress, too. Pittsburgh Penguins practice.

Who is legit, who will slow down, and what should the Penguins worry about? Penguins analysis.

Steelers Now:

  • SN+ — There was a dust-up between Mitch Trubisky and Diontae Johnson a few weeks ago. Johnson says there are no hard feelings. The Steelers locker room story.
  • Nine players are out or on the injured list. Steelers injuries.
  • One big name was back and a full-go — Kenny Pickett.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Looking for a right-side defenseman — the Montreal Canadiens are shopping the NHL trade market.

The Penguins have two extra, but neither would fetch much in a trade, except maybe an owed favor to cash later.

Washington Hockey Now: Injuries and ineffectiveness. A big shakeup for the Washington Capitals lines.

Sportsnet: Nine early season — Oh, my God! — overreactions.

Vancouver Sportsnet — It’s a shame we’re still looking for a new Canucks beat writer. There’s a lot of stuff happening. The Canucks keep blowing multiple-goal leads. Jim Rutherford spoke out, and that’s never good.

Detroit Hockey Now: Jakub Vrana entered the league’s Player Assistance Program. He’s out indefinitely for the Detroit Red Wings.

Also — our Detroit writers are getting to know former Penguins prospect Oskar Sundqvist.

Colorado Hockey Now: A little trouble for the defending Stanley Cup champions. Captain Gabe Landeskog is out for 12 weeks. Colorado Avalanche news.

Philly Hockey Now: Philadelphia’s unblemished start ended Wednesday, as the Florida Panthers beat the Philadelphia Flyers.

Dallas Hockey Now: Hey now! Are the 3-0 Dallas Stars real?

The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn Nine Nine are the Holy Trinity of sitcoms. I know you liked Community, so those 3 are right up your alley if you haven’t seen them.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are must watch.

Not sure if you’ve seen Godless, but it’s a really great western. 7 or 8 hour-long episodes. I’m also finishing the 2nd season of Justified, which I’m really enjoying. Derry Girls is great, as is Frank of Ireland (I recommend subtitles.) Both are comedies. Good luck!

Justified, Yellowstone, & Longmire. There are several British series worth watching; the writing is SO much better than most network TV. Endeavor & Shetland would be good starting points.

“What We Do in the Shadows” on Hulu. Pretty oddball, but well done
