Dan’s Daily: Trade Chatter, Metro Meltdowns & Penguins Soar

Published

on

Pittsburgh Penguins Mark Friedman

The NHL trade market is taking another turn as the Toronto Maple Leafs might be in real need of a top-four defenseman. Enter increased Jakob Chychrun chatter. New York Islanders coach Lane Lambert hammered his team and its effort on Thursday night after the Islanders laid down against the Devils. The Washington Capitals are getting worried, too. Juraj Slavkovsky scored his first NHL goal, and it was a dandy. Jack Eichel scored a pair as the Golden Knights have “The Fortress” rocking. And the Pittsburgh Penguins failed to get the chili goal.

But the Penguins won, 6-1.

I’ll begin packing this afternoon for the 10-day western trip. I haven’t been on a trip like this in years. Since I’m not an organized, methodical person by nature, you can join the betting — What item(s) will Dan forget that will send him scrambling?

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

  • Opinion: Here’s why the Steelers trading Chase Claypool doesn’t add up.
  • T.J. Watt isn’t practicing. His return remains weeks away.
  • The defense is getting ready for mobile lefty Tua Tagovailoa. Steelers game prep.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Ke’Bryan Hayes is a Gold Glove finalist. Pittsburgh Pirates news.

Resisting the temptation for a snarky Pirates joke. Resisting the temptation …

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

A pair of Metro teams get called out …

NYI Hockey Now: New coach Lane Lambert wasn’t so happy with his team’s effort. It managed only two even-strength shots in the third period of a 4-1 loss to New Jersey. The coach knocked his New York Islanders.

Washington Hockey Now: Losers of three out of five. Owners of poor effort. The players and coach are calling out the Washington Capitals.

Boston Hockey Now: The NHL trade talk is hitting Boston. A right-side defenseman? Hmm. Bruins trade talk.

Montreal Hockey Now: Watch — Juraj Slafkovsky scored his first goal and delivered a healthy staredown.

If you enjoy a little violence with your hockey, Arber “Wifi” Xhekaj bullied Zack Kassian in a fight. Montreal Canadiens highlights.

By the way, the Canadiens won again.

Montreal Hockey Now: The NHL trade chatter is hitting Montreal, too. The team is looking for defense (defence), and one Penguins d-man made the list. Here are three potential Canadiens’ trade targets.

Toronto Star: Nick Kypreos firmly lays out the whys and, more importantly, the hows of the Toronto Maple Leafs getting Jakob Chychrun. He makes a good case, which should stir NHL trade chatter.

Vegas Hockey Now: Jack Eichel, Jack Eichel. The potentially great center scored a pair of goals, and the Vegas Golden Knights are rolling.

Calgary Hockey Now: The Penguins visit Calgary next week. The Buffalo Sabres — yes, the Sabres — sped past Calgary, 6-3. Get a sneak peek of the Calgary Flames.
