The Pittsburgh Penguins cleared a pair of roster spots on Friday, and it could be for the return of the pretty rich guy, Evgeni Malkin. You can also call him Fire. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan will address the media later Saturday morning. Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg stirred NHL trade rumors when he reportedly asked out of Dallas. T.J. Oshie and Nick Backstrom are on the Washington Capitals IR, and the continuing postponements in Canada could put those teams at a significant disadvantage.

Bingo?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins sent Radim Zohorna to the WBS Penguins and put Louis Domingue on the taxi squad. Jeff Carter has been cleared to rejoin the team. Could the other spot be filled on Saturday by…Evgeni Malkin?

Mie Rupp also told a hilarious story about Malkin and Sergei Gonchar testing Malkin’s Porche. Sidney Crosby also received praise in Philadelphia. They were just a couple of the fun stories about the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Daily Faceoff: Frank Seravalli reports the Florida Panthers and St. Louis Blues are kicking the NHL trade tires on Ben Chiarot.

Sportsnet: Is there a chance the NHL season is extended?

TSN: Will the delayed Canadian games mean the Canadian teams are at a disadvantage?

How can the season not be extended, and how can those Canadian teams not get the short end of the stick?

Vancouver: Frustration over the schedule and the NHL ‘making a mockery” of it is growing around the Vancouver Canucks.

The NY Mag had a story that the U.S. Omicron wave is worse than the European wave. I wonder if you can spot the contextual difference between the U.S. population and the European societies and why more Americans are dying?

Florida: Remember years ago when we advocated for Anthony Duclair? The forward is reaching new heights with the Florida Panthers.

Vegas: Watch as Gerard Gallant and Ryan Reaves return to T-Mobile Arena to face the Vegas Golden Knights.

Metro Division and Playoff Chase:

Washington: Nick Backstrom and T.J. Oshie were placed on the Washington Capitals IR.

NYI: Sink or swim time on Long Island. They’re out of the playoffs but have 10 of the next 11 games at home. It’s now or never for the New York Islanders.

Detroit: The Detroit Red Wings are in the hunt for the second wild card, but intensity needs to improve to make the playoffs.
