Dan’s Daily: Penguins Not on Trade Market, Sens RFA Walks

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, Kris Letang, Brock McGinn

The Pittsburgh Penguins found a gear they haven’t accessed this season. They swarmed the Vegas Golden Knights in a style of play that Sidney Crosby called “a lot of fun.” The Penguins are not on the NHL trade market, at least for a defenseman. The Calgary Flames goalie says he sucks at hockey. The Ottawa Senators let RFA Alex Formenton walk away. Jordan Binnington “tried” to check Jordan Staal without very good results, and Jason Robertson is an animal in Dallas.

Regardless of the Penguins’ outcome on Thursday, I immensely enjoyed that game. The Penguins did much right, but they couldn’t knock out Vegas because Vegas was also playing well (enough).

That was playoff hockey-lite.

And THAT is the P.O Joseph we’ve been waiting to see.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsbugh Penguins rallied for a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. The almost-famous, or is it infamous, Dave Molinari’s Penguins postgame.

Vegas Hockey Now: From the other side, the Vegas Golden Knights gist.

From the locker stall of the captain Sidney Crosby, there was no rah-rah speech. No “do it for Kris Letang,” moment was had, but “everyone understood.” More from the Penguins locker room.

PHN+: The Penguins have not played in fives as well as that this season. P.O Joseph and Marcus Pettersson moved with conviction and purpose. Get the player grades, chalkboard breakdown, in the Penguins report card.

Here’s my favorite story — The notebook. Joseph and Kasperi Kapanen had resurgent games. You could see Kapanen’s smile from space. It was a big night at PPG. Penguins notebook.

The Penguins are off today. If my body allows it, I’ll jump into the studio for a live chat around 1 p.m. I’ve been dealing with Bronchitis for a week or so, and the steroids have helped tremendously. Plus, I can hit a baseball 50 feet farther.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now:

TSN Insiders: The good news is that Kris Letang’s recent tests were had positive results, And no, the Pittsburgh Penguins are not in the NHL trade market for a defenseman.

Calgary Hockey Now: You don’t hear a goalie say this often, but Jacob Markstrom is having a battle with the puck, “I suck at hockey right now.” The Calgary Flames goalie opened up.

Washington Hockey Now: The Capitals had a lead late in regulation. They lost that. Then they lost the game to the Seattle Kraken in Seattle. Another strange loss for the Washington Capitals.

Sportsnet: The Ottawa Senators and Alex Formenton did not sign a contract before the 5 p.m. deadline and Formenton cannot play in the NHL this season.

That was odd. I suspect we’ll hear more in the coming days.

LA Hockey Now: LA Lost 9-8 two days ago and put Cal Petersen on waivers. He cleared but vows, I will be back for the LA Kings.

Dallas Hockey Now: Points in 17 straight and “unbelievable” Jason Robertson had a hat trick on Thursday in the Dallas Stars big win.

This just made me laugh. Jordan Binnington is just a little bit nuts. He tried to body check Jordan Staal.
