Dan’s Daily: Penguins U-Turns, More Canadiens Trade Whispers

Published

on

Pittsburgh Penguins, Kasperi Kapanen, Washington Capitals

The Pittsburgh Penguins rosters for rookie and training camps were announced on Tuesday. There was no Brian Boyle. Dave Molinari will have additional information on Boyle and a little Penguins trade scoop coming this morning. Brian Burke expects a few Penguins to have U-turns from disappointing play last season. The Ottawa Senators are surging and season ticket sales have doubled. The Montreal Canadiens will visit the NHL trade market while putting Kirby Dach’s name on a contract in the very near future. Should Calgary offer Joe Thornton a PTO?

National Hockey Now is expanding. And Sports Now Group PGH is expanding. And Dan is questioning his sanity. Our meeting on Tuesday with an investor already in our space yielded wide eyes on both sides and an invitation to talk when we get to where we’re going. Yinz have been the rock of our company, and I hope we make you proud that you were on the ground floor, pretty soon.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Oh the whispers are picking up in Montreal. No team is going to stir the pot this season like the Canadiens. Before they sign newly acquired Kirby Dach, the Canadiens plan to hit the NHL trade market.

Update: The Canadiens went ahead and announced the Dach signing on Wednesday morning. Sources say their still on the market, too…

Vancouver Hockey Now: J.T. Miller signed, but his NTC doesn’t kick in for two years. Could the Cancucks put him on the NHL trade block before then? Bo Horvat is next, but Rob Simpson reports there is “limited optimism” to re-sign Horvat. Here’s the Vancouver Canucks skinny.

Sportsnet: After a few years of suffering and losing, the Ottawa Senators fans are gobbling up season tickets as their rebuild turns the corner.

Washington Hockey Now: The informal practices are getting more intense. The grinders are showing up, and the Washington Capitals season looms.

Philly Hockey Now: The Penguins aren’t the only Metro team with a new No. 1 prospect. The top-10 Philadelphia Flyers prospects.

San Jose Hockey Now: New jerseys alert. Get a look at the news San Jose Sharks jerseys.

Calgary Hockey Now: The Flames have had an offseason, eh? Goodbye Johnny Gaudreau, and Matthew Tkachuk. Goodbye hope, optimism, and sunshine. Then…hello Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, and hello Stanley Cup contender. If the season started today, what would the Flames lines look like?

Should the Flames be the team to give Joe Thornton a PTO?

Morbid as it is, Melnyk’s death is the best thing that’s happened to that franchise in over a decade.
