Dan’s Daily: Penguins Decisions Loom, Which Team Can Stink the Most?

Published

on

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, P.O. Joseph, Mark Friedman

The Pittsburgh Penguins management has one very difficult choice though it seemingly is already made. The more pertinent question might be how costly that decision will be. As the NHL season nears its start, a few teams are racing to the bottom, and they could be epically bad. The Vancouver Canucks spurred the NHL trade market and gained cap space by shipping Jason Dickinson out of town.

I suspect this is an anxious weekend for a couple of players who don’t deserve their fate. If the Penguins waive P.O Joseph and Mark Friedman, the team will be $44,000 under the salary cap.

Hextall has not seemed optimistic about a trade.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins waxed the Buffalo Sabres 7-1. Don’t let the score fool you. The Sabres weren’t that close. Dave Molinari has the storylines that mattered for the Penguins.

PHN+: The good and the bad of both Ty Smith and P.O Joseph as they had one final game to make their case for the final roster spot. What each did well and not well — Joseph had a lot of good and very little bad, but it may be too late. If you want to know more about Smith’s game with specific examples, here you go — the Pittsburgh Penguins battle.

Penguins injury update: Teddy Blueger is making progress.

Steelers Now:

  • Wanting more from a free agent QB? The Steelers aren’t alone.
  • After the Tua Tagovailau debacle, the NFL has made changes to the NFL concussion protocol.
  • Running QB? It comes with complications, but Kenny Pickett is capable.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

Be careful what you wish for, kid.

Sports betting is soon legal in Ohio. FanDuel is giving $100 bonuses for new signups.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now:

TSN: Trade! Out goes Jason Dickinson, an extra million dollars, and a second-round pick to make it happen.

Montreal Hockey Now: This could correlate directly to the Pittsburgh Penguins — GM Kent Hughes is waiting for the right players to hit the NHL waiver wire. He won’t add just anyone for the Montreal Canadiens.

Mark Friedman would be a great fit.

NYI: Know which other team could put a claim on one of the Penguins’ defensemen? Check out this crop of 7th D contenders for the New York Islanders.

Philly Hockey Now: Why I love John Tortorella, volume 408. Torts has evolved as a coach because “players have the attention span of an amoeba.” More wisdom from the Philadelphia Flyers coach.

Sportsnet: In their 10 storylines this season, it’s a conglomerate of which team can be the most wretched. There will be some terrible teams this season. And when will Patrick Kane’s NHL trade rumors begin?

I’ve seen some blogs tie Patrick Kane to the Penguins. Save yourself time. No.

Nike is the latest sponsor to pull their money from Hockey Canada.

Hockey Canada needs a clean sweep. Their problem is so deep seeded I wonder if they realize the real problem. I keep going back to it — the offenses were so common that the boys had names for these parties.

Washington Hockey Now: Our Sammi Silber likes dogs. Ok, she loves them, and any player who loves dogs is aces. Meet backup goalie Charlie Lindgren. He’s got a great ‘stache, a new chance, and loves dogs. Washington Capitals feature.

Detroit: Elmer Soderblom is becoming a human highlight reel for the Detroit Red Wings.

Vegas Hockey Now: Coach Bruce Cassidy and Jonathan Marchessault dished on Jaromir Jagr’s career. RMU grad Owen Krepps is rocking out, covering the Vegas Golden Knights.
