The exciting Montreal Canadiens offseason has not slowed, but sources disagree on the values of their NHL trade chips. Dave Molinari looked at the Penguins PK, which took a dirt nap against the New York Rangers in the playoffs, and if an unconventional fix is the right thing. TSN examined the fault of drafting goalies high, or rather the value of drafting goalies a few rounds into the draft. And where will Phil Kessel sign?

Maybe now that Nazem Kadri is signed and the New York Islanders have taken care of their free agents, the market will begin to move. I remain surprised that Evan Rodrigues is unsigned. Attempts to find out more about that situation have not yielded any reportable information.

NHLPA: We found a little story– On Sept. 6, the Upper Deck card company is gathering 30 rookies for a day at the Capitals practice rink. Upper Deck will use the pictures and video of prospects in full uniform on the trading cards. Sam Poulin will represent the Penguins.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins’ penalty kill was great in the regular season, but it stumbled down the stretch and was nonexistent in the playoffs. Dave Molinari wonders if a little bit of Bryan Rust could go a long way. Pittsburgh Penguins.

SteelersNow.com: The offensive line needs just a wee bit of work…and lots of help. Should the Steelers trade for Isaiah Wynn? Pittsburgh Steelers.

There are six new stories on the SteelersNow.com homepage. Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh are turning out some really good stuff, including — there are several veterans on the roster bubble. More cuts are coming. Steelers roster.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

Count me as jealous, the Canadian media is returning from weeks at their lake houses. I’m wondering when I’ll start! Perhaps another little working bike trip through the mountains for a roast beef sandwich and pie is in order!

NYI Hockey Now: Welp, the Islanders lost all of the NHL trade and free agent derbies. So, they have a bit of cap space left. Should they sign…Phil Kessel?! New York Islanders.

Sportsnet: Lou Lamoriello kept a stiff upper lip. He missed on everyone this summer, except snagging Alexander Romanov from Montreal. Lamoriello claimed he’s not disappointed by the offseason.

He should be disappointed. The Islanders are not materially better.

Montreal Hockey Now: It’s always interesting when two sources say two different things. That happened to Jimmy Murphy on Tuesday, so he wrote both sides. The Canadiens are shopping a few players on the NHL trade market, and sources disagreed on the price tag, especially for Christian Dvorak. Montreal Canadiens.

What will Kirby Dach’s next contract look like? Montreal Canadiens.

ESPN: Shocker here, but it fits. It also affects the Pittsburgh Penguins. Paul Statsny signed not with the Colorado Avalanche but the Carolina Hurricanes.

TSN: More proof that you don’t need a first-round goalie to win. Some deep diving analytics wrapped in the obvious. There are plenty of mid-round goalies playing big minutes.

NYI Hockey Now: More from the Islanders. They’ve been on a tear for a couple of days after losing Kadri. In addition to signing their RFAs, they also signed Dennis Cholowski. Is he their sixth defenseman? Stefen Rosner went fishing for more info and analysis of Cholowski if indeed he’s it. Stefen’s findings weren’t entirely pretty. New York Islanders.

Washington Hockey Now: I guess this is a sign of the times, but I’m not sure how I feel about it. Alex Ovechkin worked as a call center employee for a day. The call center was for a betting site. He called people who registered but didn’t make a deposit. Ummm, OooooK? Weird and interesting story by Sammi Silber. Washington Capitals.

Detroit Hockey Now: There’s something about this kid Moritz Seider. He’s already in the Norris Trophy conversation. Detroit Red Wings.

Calgary Hockey Now: Flames GM Brad Treliving grabbed that bucket of lemons and made lemonade this summer. He also turned that other bucket into a gourmet chicken salad. But is he STILL working the phones and NHL trade market? Calgary Flames.
