Dan’s Daily: Penguins’ Special Teams Help, Bruins Back Out on Troubled Prospect

Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, NHL Trade Chatter

The Pittsburgh Penguins practice Sunday was about special teams. The locker room was about fixing what ails them. The Penguins’ longtime rival, the Washington Capitals, also are falling flat past the 10-game mark. Brock Boeser may hit the NHL trade block soon. Matthew Tkachuk will be suspended for multiple games, and Josh Anderson got a two-gamer for actions on Saturday night. And with new information and heavy public pressure, the Boston Bruins cut bait with controversial prospect Mitchell Miller.

Wow, the Bruins’ management made a big mess. It appears they may have received some misinformation, but it’s a mess that will be cleared up (or made worse) beginning today, when Bruins president Cam Neely speaks. A bit of advice for Neely: Full truth and transparency. If they screwed up, admit it. If they were sold a bridge in New York, admit that, too. Own it. That’s the only way to move forward and repair their integrity.

Boston Hockey Now:  Here’s the story that broke last night. Boston parted ways with Mitchell Miller. The Boston Bruins backed out.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Are you frustrated by the Penguins’ winless streak? Here’s another story you’ll only get at PHN: Dave Molinari had a sit-down with the Penguins captain, and here’s what a candid Sidney Crosby said.

This is what you get for joining PHN+ — an ad-free experience with the best in the business.

On Sunday, Mike Sullivan scheduled lots of special teams work. He wants them to “Shoot!” Get the full details from Penguins practice.

And — my take on the Penguins’ worsening situation — they need GM Ron Hextall’s help. A Penguins trade is needed.

Steelers Now: Chase Claypool brought back the Chicago Bears’ second-round pick. The Green Bay Packers also offered a second-rounder and a bit more. Steelers trade news.

Check this out — Claypool signed autographs before the game, including an old Mitch Trubisky jersey.

I’m also told our new platform and app are FINALLY being implemented across the network (after seven months of development). I might rent out Leo Public House or Coughlin’s Law and have a hell of a party when everything is done. I highly recommend both spots.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now

Washington Hockey Now: The Penguins are winless in seven. The Capitals have lost four in a row. Injuries. Waivers. It’s a time for the Washington Capitals, too.

The Penguins and Capitals meet on Wednesday at the Capital One Center.

Vegas: NHL trade block — multiple teams need goalie help, and the Vegas Golden Knights have three.

Florida: I posted the jab and brawl yesterday. The NHL suspended Matthew Tkachuk for two games.

Montreal: Josh Anderson delivered a dangerous hit on Saturday against Alex Pietrangelo. The NHL suspended the Montreal Canadiens‘ forward for two games.

Dallas: Don’t look now, but Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are red-hot for the Dallas Stars.

San Jose: Things are still tough in San Jose. As Sheng Peng writes, “not skilled enough, not smart enough right now.” The San Jose Sharks column.
