Dan’s Daily: Friedman Suggests Bozak to Penguins; Eichel for Gibson?

Pittsburgh Penguins, Tyler Bozak, NHL trade

The Matrix 4 trailer dropped on Thursday, and it may be the best minute I spent this week. Elliotte Friedman reported that Tyler Bozak has narrowed his choices to a couple of teams and wondering if the Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the choices. He also stirred the NHL trade chatter on Tomas Hertl. We opined the Penguins core is being tasked to save themselves in a “show me” year. Did Anaheim offer John Gibson for Jack Eichel and get shot down, and our newest network beat writer asked if there is life after Marc-Andre Fleury?

And Friedman also reported that Buffalo is re-engaging the potential NHL trade partners on Jack Eichel.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Sidney Crosby injury kicked open the door to wonder if the end is nigh. Neither Evgeni Malkin nor Kris Letang have new contracts yet. And Brian Burke made comments that could be parsed to openly wonder if the Penguins are putting the onus on the Penguins core to prove themselves this season or be broken up?

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: When Elliotte Friedman speaks, it’s usually worth listening. Friedman reported the Buffalo Sabres are again pushing Eichel trade talks and suggested the Pittsburgh Penguins could be a landing spot for Tyler Bozak.

If the Penguins were to land Bozak, that would likely necessitate at least one trade, too. Drum roll, please.

Vegas: Marc-Andre Fleury is gone from the desert. Sold his house. It’s a new era for the Vegas Golden Knights, but is there life after Fleury?

Mayor’s Manor Audio: The NHL trade market could have gotten a real shock–John Hoven reports Anaheim offered John Gibson for Jack Eichel…

Bally’s Sports Midwest: Andy Strickland of the Cam & Strick Podcast reports that one team is willing to eat some of Vladimir Tarasenko’s salary to finally facilitate the Tarasenko trade.

NYI: Will the Islanders be the beneficiary of the Tarasenko talk and scoop him off the NHL trade market? Our boys in New York write that it doesn’t appear the Islanders will bite. They have more pressing needs.

Boston: Patrice Bergeron does not have a contract beyond this season. The Bruins have lost stalwarts in consecutive summers beginning with Zdeno Chara. Jimmy Murphy opines that’s not probable…unless Arizona moves to Quebec City??

Philly: Paul Holmgren was elected to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Is the Flyers Hall next?

Peter McNab was also voted into the U.S. Hall.

Journalist and author Stan Fischler was also given the tap.

Florida: Panthers rookie camp starts today, including 12th overall pick Anton Lundell.

Detroit: The Red Wings will participate in a rookie tournament next weekend. Top NHL prospect Lucas Raymond will be on the ice, as will prized goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa.

TSN: Hayley Wickenheiser is running the Toronto Maple Leafs development camp. Not a big deal, except it is.

San Jose Podcast: Our Kevin Allen, Bob Duff, and Sheng Peng discussed whether the San Jose Sharks could move forward with Evander Kane.

Grace Slick’s White Rabbit vocals may be the most powerful in Rock history. The Matrix trailer looks like they’ve done it right…
