The Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes scouting of each other has intensified. The Detroit Red Wings have a couple of sought after players but are firm in their ask and the Washington Capitals skid continued which keeps the Pittsburgh Penguins close in the Metro Division.

I don’t know the reason TSN videos are not viewable to fans in the States, so I won’t bother linking to the great postgame video chat between Darren Dreger and Ray Ferraro. The pair went nuts and bolts through the Edmonton Oilers problems. However, Dreger also dropped the info the Maple Leafs management scouted the Carolina Hurricanes (Dreger Twitter)

The Hurricanes are long known to want Kaspari Kapanen and Toronto has long bristled at the ask but it’s crunch time and Toronto badly needs an RHD.

Ansar Kahn of MLive went through the Detroit Red Wings trade pieces and revealed the asking price for Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist (MLive)

Tell me Nyquist isn’t at least a little tempting for the Penguins to slot on Sidney Crosby’s right wing. A first rounder is tough to give up if the player isn’t one which will put a team over the top. Jimmy Howard is worth it. Nyquist…probably not.

The Washington Capitals lost again. Toronto handed them their lunch, 6-3. (TSN)

John Shannon’s Top 25 Power Brokers in the NHL. Yes, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby made the list (Sportsnet)

The Hockey News did a great piece on Robin Lehner. If you don’t think the Islanders are for real, think again. (THN)

Pittsburgh Hockey Now will be covering the opening of the Penguins exhibit at the Heinz History Center this AM. I’m sure we’ll have some great video, too.
