Dan’s Daily: Sweeping Penguins Changes, Diversity Alliance Slams Bruins & Agent

Pittsburgh Penguins, Kasperi Kapanen, Washington Capitals, nhl trade talk

WASHINGTON D.C. — Bad has become worse in the unfolding situation in Boston. On Tuesday, the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA) absolutely slammed Mitchell Miller’s agent Eustace King and the Boston Bruins. Also in the Daily, there could be sweeping on-ice changes for the Pittsburgh Penguins when they visit the Washington Capitals Wednesday night. The Calgary Flames have lost six in a row. Ryan Reynolds admitted he is indeed trying to become a part owner of the Ottawa Senators, NHL trade talk around two Canadian teams, and the Vegas Golden Knights have now won eight straight.

The hockey world is chattering about the HDA. Many accusations, which are not yet public, have been levied against involved parties. If you think the public side is messy, “behind closed doors” is even worse.

We’ll start with the Penguins.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Here’s the Penguins practice report with the new lines and three new Penguins defense pairs.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Mike Sullivan said the team is “exploring options” to find a spark. Coaches rewarded Marcus Pettersson for his strong play. He could get the call beside Kris Letang as Brian Dumoulin drops to the third pair. Kasperi Kapanen might be in the press box.

PHN+: You may be right. For every fan pleading with the Penguins power play to shoot the puck, Sullivan agrees. More from the players and coach about the Penguins’ power play, including Danton Heinen, who has no delusions about his job. Penguins power play struggles.

We’ve quietly rolled out the first podcast. The Ice Guys made quite a name for themselves last season as the premiere hockey betting podcast. They roll daily. Make sure to add them to your list of downloads. Here’s the latest show to get you started. The Ice Guys podcast.

Steelers Now:

  • The Steelers made a roster move — Making room for T.J. Watt.
  • Surprise. Watch as T.J. Watt crashed the McKeesport High School football practice.
  • And this probably seems like a no-brainer, but Mike Tomlin is considering more playing time for Jaylen Warren and less for Najee Harris. More from Steelers practice.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Three more free agents to watch who could, should, and might be free agent targets for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now:

Boston Hockey Now: I suggest visiting BHN for the back stories and the running news regarding the Mitchell Miller situation. I’m not sure the proper word for what it has become, but it’s getting worse, not better. Tuesday, the HDA leveled Miller’s agent Eustace King and the Boston Bruins.

There is mounting evidence that King misrepresented vital facts. His version certainly differs from that told by Bruins president Cam Neely.

Montreal: Mike Matheson is close to returning to the lineup, which means someone has to go. Montreal could lose a solid player to waivers — It’s a tough choice for the Montreal Canadiens.

Philly: Perhaps it’s some comfort to fans that other talented teams can’t buy a win? The St. Louis Blues have dropped eight straight after their 5-1 drubbing by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Washington: There are two stories from Washington. One is an important update on big-name players returning from injury. Two, Nicolas Aube-Kubel took a little jab at Evander Kane. You can read both — First, the full updates on Tom Wilson, Nick Backstrom, and other injured Washington Capitals.

And Aube-Kubel rocked Kane on Monday night, then had a little poke for him Tuesday.

However, on Tuesday night, Kane had terrible luck in the Oilers’ 3-2 win over Tampa Bay. He was taken to the hospital when his left wrist was cut by a skate blade. He is in stable condition and underwent a procedure late last night. Here’s the full story on Evander Kane.

It was scary, and PHN joins the hockey community in wishing Evander a speedy recovery.

TSN Insiders: The Canucks face big decisions, which probably means a visit or three to the NHL trade market. Evgenii Dadonov is starting to appear in NHL trade rumors, too.

Vegas Hockey Now: Eight straight wins and an actual road trip from Toronto to Buffalo. Wanna hear the most annoying sound on earth? Owen Krepps has the VGK takeaways after they handily beat Toronto. Vegas Golden Knights are rolling.

Calgary: Bad news for the Penguins, the New Jersey Devils won again. They beat Calgary. Head coach Darryl Sutter isn’t a happy guy, as their winless streak hit six. Maybe the Calgary Flames are too comfortable?

NY Post: And Ryan Reynolds is serious about buying the Ottawa Senators, though his network is closer to 10% of the asking price, so Deadpool is going to need “a sugar momma.”
