Pittsburgh Penguins, Teddy Blueger, Vancouver Canucks, NHL trade talks with Islanders

LAS VEGAS — One more morning in Lost Wages. We worked stiff on the Pittsburgh Penguins. This keyboard strongly opined that it is time for GM Ron Hextall to get involved. However, the fans and comments veered into vitriolic after the Penguins reached winless in six. The Calgary Flames helped the Penguins out. The Vancouver Canucks have multiple players on the NHL trade block, and how good can Conor Bedard be in the NHL?

I finished down a bit after taking most of the day for myself but made up for it by walking over 69,000 steps in three days. And I found a quaint watch outlet. It was either lose that money or spend it, eh? All but two of the tables hated me, I mean … hated me. But I did eat like a king for three days. Tacos, hot dogs, pizza, pastrami, In-N-Out burger, a steak at Golden Steer (an old school spot that Elvis and Sinatra frequented), and an Italian dish at Siegel’s in El Cortez. I slept well Friday night.

Let’s do that hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: First, the scary incident with the WBS Penguins. Filip Hallander fell into the boards, and he needed a stretcher. Here’s the WBS Penguins story.

To less important matters — the Penguins are in trouble. This is the second time in two months they’ve hit the skids. One is a bad stretch. Twice is a pattern. It’s time for GM Ron Hextall to hit the NHL trade market. It’s time to shake up the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It’s Tim Horton’s commercial time. Watch the latest spot with Sidney Crosby.

Steelers Now:

Unbelievable. Like the gods have cleared the runway. Backup and third QBs, including Joe Flacco, are creating a much better scenario for the Steelers’ playoff chances.

Well earned. Minkah Fitzpatrick is the Steelers MVP.

And Damar Hamlin is recovering. That’s just fantastic news all day long.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

To no one’s surprise, a lowball contract offer led to Bryan Reynold’s trade request. The Pittsburgh Pirates news.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

NYI Hockey Now: The Penguins’ chief competition for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference lost. The Calgary Flames provided some help and dusted the New York Islanders.

The Province: Bo Horvat, too late. Brock Boeser, probably. What about J.T. Miller? The Vancouver Canucks have stirred NHL trade rumors. Now, here’s the scoop on their trade chips.

Montreal Hockey Now: The scalding hot, burning 2023 predictions for the Montreal Canadiens.

Philly Hockey Now: Ed Snider left a lasting legacy and will be honored this weekend. While it took more than 30 years for the Penguins to find stability in ownership, the Philadelphia Flyers always had it.

Even if Snider was the angry voice behind the creation of the Broadstreet Bullies, he led the franchise well.

Washington Hockey Now: The league is full of streaks this year. Washington surged, and now the Capitals are kicking themselves after another bad loss. Anthony Mantha was benched with prejudice in the latest Washington Capitals loss.

Sportsnet: Scouts discuss: How good can Connor Bedard be in the NHL?

Colorado Hockey Now: Frustration is also setting in with the defending Stanley Cup champs. Another u-g-l-y loss. What’s going on with the Colorado Avalanche?

Vegas Hockey Now: Phil Kessel in another All-Star game? Logan Thompson is lobbying for the two-time Stanley Cup champion to be another Vegas Golden Knights rep.
