Pittsburgh Penguins, P.O Joseph named to Team Canada

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph has been named to Team Canada for the 2023 IIHF World Championships. This year’s World Championship will be held from May 12-28 in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia.

It is the first time Joseph will represent Canada in international competition.

Joseph, 23, just completed his first full NHL season. In 75 games, he had five goals, 16 assists, and 21 points and tied Sidney Crosby with a team-leading plus-8. Only Dallas’ Nils Lundkvist (6) had more goals among rookie defensemen than Joseph, whose assist and point totals ranked fourth among all rookie blueliners.

The Laval, Quebec native became the 11th rookie defenseman in Penguins history to notch 20 or more points.

The Canadian team is highlighted by expected second-overall pick Adam Fantelli, Calgary Flames winger Tyler Toffoli, and Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Quinn.

The other Canadian defensemen are Mackenzie Weegar (Calgary), Justin Barron (Montreal), Tyler Myers (Vancouver), Ethan Bear (Vancouver), and Justin Walman (Detroit).
