The Pittsburgh Penguins did the expected on Saturday afternoon when they activated forward Jared McCann from the IR. The team also activated forward Anthony Angello from the taxi squad, according to GM Ron Hextall.

The Penguins also demoted rookie forward Drew O’Connor to the taxi squad to make room for Angello. Sam Miletic was activated and assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

McCann missed the last six games with a lower-body injury.

From the Pittsburgh Penguins release:

Jared McCann, 24, has been on injured reserve since February 6 and has missed the last seven games for Pittsburgh. Prior to his injury, McCann had two goals, three assists, and five points in 11 games.

Angello, 24, has eight career NHL games to his name, all with Pittsburgh last season. On February 18, 2020, against Toronto, Angello scored his first career goal for his only point in the NHL.

An Albany, New York native, Angello has skated in two games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, where he has notched one goal, one assist and two points. In 117 career games in the AHL, all with WBS, Angello has 56 points (33G-23A).

Pittsburgh plays its first game of back-to-back contests against the New York Islanders tonight at Nassau Coliseum. The puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
