Have you ever wondered about the other half of your 50/50 Raffle purchase?

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation announced Monday they have donated $1.1 million to local 501c3 charities. It’s the third consecutive year the foundation’s donations have exceeded $1.1 million.

“Being able to donate $1.1 million again this year is just phenomenal,” said President of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, Dave Soltesz. “We are able to help so many small, grassroots groups with these grants. It makes a difference to them, and that’s why we are here.”

During the 2017-18 season, the Foundation distributed grants to 90 organizations in the Pittsburgh area. According to the Penguins team press release, the organizations included the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, the Lullaby Fund, Envision Sports, Bailey’s Bottoms and Random Acts of Kindness, SLB Radio Productions, the Beaver County Education Foundation, Dreams of Hope, The SD Project, and more.

Since the 50/50 Raffle began in 2012, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has donated over $5 million to charities in the area, and given to over 150 organizations. The 50/50 Raffle Grants are awarded twice a year; in February and at the conclusion of the Penguins’ season. The 2018-19 grant application will be available on the Foundation’s website at the start of the next season.
