Penguins Live Chat: Former Pens, Trading Veterans, & Expectations
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ offseason might be a multi-front battle of trades, acquisitions, and departures. As we did this week’s Live Chat, the puzzle pieces are still scattered about general manager Kyle Dubas’s table.
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now conducts his weekly chat and the questions focused not on the open coaching position, but on signing restricted free agents, which veterans could be the first out the door, and what will constitute a successful offseason.
We began the show with a discussion on Mikael Granlund’s Penguins tenure, why he flopped in Pittsburgh, and the full backstory. There was a bit of Ron Hextall criticism, too.
11:00 Dan’s unique T-shirt
11:30: The Penguins are NOT trading Sidney Crosby
13:00: The trade talk surrounding the Penguins, starting with Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi, but a brutal takedown on clickbait.
16:30: Which veterans will be traded and which prospects will arrive? Specifically, the price on a Rickard Rakell trade, why trading Bryan Rust is unlikely, and the difficulty of trading Erik Karlsson.
24:00: How long will the rebuild take?
27:00 Tommy Novak’s future with the Penguins, and analysis of Novak’s game.
We also had some fun worrying about awakening AI and building the Penguins’ forwards lines, which RFAs make sense (and which don’t).
