Penguins Live Chat: More on Joseph/Kulikov, Penguins Playoffs

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, Dan Kingerski

Since the Pittsburgh Penguins practice was at PPG Paints Arena Monday, we used the big rink to hold a semi-live Penguins chat. Using a few questions submitted via Twitter, Dan Kingerski answered in greater detail the roster battle between P.O Joseph and Dmitry Kulikov, the Mikael Granlund trade, the Penguins’ playoff outlook, and even if they could beat the Boston Bruins or Carolina Hurricanes.

With a little bit of backdrop about the Penguins’ playoff chances and their current situation, Kingerski broke down how the Penguins’ seasons could end, including which teams they could upset and which one would cut through them.

Dan, some people just want to be critical and negative. Nothing lasts forever, enjoy this team while you can. Like talking to a wall. There are also 31 other NHL teams to watch, right?

Dan can you explain why the Pens GMRH or Coach Sully won’t call up Alex Nylander the leading goal scorer (25 goals) & a pretty talented hockey player to at least give him an opportunity to play in the NHL or “am I missing anything with talent judgement, please comment to a very frustrated Pens fan that would like to see the kid get a chance
Thanks

The Penguins coaches and scouts feel he is an AHL player. While he is lighting up the lesser competition there, perhaps he doesn’t do the little things or play the all-around game they require for nhl call ups. Also, injuries would have to happen for him to get a call up. They have been relatively healthy this season.

Too bad they traded Lafferty who flourished in Chicago once he had a good opportunity to play for an AHL player if that’s what they think of Nylander. I would rather have Lafferty than anyone in the bottom 6 other than O’Connor

Should have brought back lafferty instead of archibald.

Awesome analysis Dan. I’ve been watching the pens since mid 80s and the critics just don’t get it. How fortunate pens fans have been since they drafted 66. Five Stanley Cups are you kidding me. Sid Geno and Tanger part of three of em. Maybe just maybe one more🤞

Also amazing how Kulikov, a journeyman player who’s been on 8 teams is now such a trustworthy savior on defense. A writer on another site said he was over his head in Anaheim. Great acquisition.

Thanks for the reply Dan, I won’t debate his AHL deficiencies, however the Coach at WB has said he has improved defensively dramatically & deserves a shot @ the
NHL !! Oh well sorry to have bothered you, I didn’t know you’ve expounded on Nylander that often, take care, it’s always a pleasure talking with you
PS: He was just called up

He will be the extra forward. I will be surprised if he plays at all. Such a waste in my opinion.
