Pittsburgh Penguins practice

Second-line winger Jason Zucker was the only unexpected absence Wednesday at Pittsburgh Penguins practice at the UMPC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Zucker, who seemed to have beaten his streak of injury bad luck so far this season, left Monday’s game against Dallas briefly but returned.

Update: after practice, coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Zucker will be out of the Penguins lineup on a week-to-week basis.

Also not on the ice was defenseman Jeff Petry, who on Tuesday was placed on LTIR because of an upper-body injury.

Defenseman Mark Friedman and forward Drew O’Connor, who were recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, were on the ice.

The Penguins wore their yellow Winter Classic helmets.

Thursday,  the team opens a two-game road trip against the Florida Panthers.

Danton Heinen, who has been a healthy scratch recently, filled in for Zucker on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust.

Here are the lines and pairings:

Jake Guentzel-Sidney Crosby-Rickard Rakell

Danton Heinen-Evgeni Malkin-Bryan Rust

Brock McGinn-Jeff Carter-Kasperi Kapanen

Ryan Poehling-Teddy Blueger-Josh Archibald

(Drew O’Connor)

Marcus Pettersson-Kris Letang

Brian Dumoulin-Jan Ruuta

P.O Joseph-Chad Ruhwedel
