Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins trade talk

The Pittsburgh Penguins surprised many when they sent goalie Tristan Jarry home from their current four-game road trip on Wednesday so the goalie could work with director of goaltending Jon Elkin. The team was carrying three goalies, and the move solidified Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist as the top two goalies for the time being.

Saturday morning, the team re-assigned Jarry to the AHL on a conditioning assignment. Those assignments can last up to 14 days.

Jarry last played on Oct. 16 against the Buffalo Sabres. He allowed three goals in 11:33, and coach Mike Sullivan replaced him with Blomqvist. Nedeljkovic started the first two games on the trip and Blomqvist started Friday in the Penguins’ 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. The Penguins are winless in their last four games.

The Penguins face the Vancouver Canucks Saturday night at Rogers Place. Betting odds at FanDuel put the Penguins as heavy underdogs (+172) and made the Canucks one of the three best bets for Saturday.

In three appearances, Jarry posted an .836 save percentage.

“We look at it as our responsibility,” Sullivan said on Thursday following the Penguins practice. “He’s a high-quality goaltender. He’s a high-quality person. This guy’s been an important part of our organization for a number of years now, and he’s played a lot of solid goaltending for us.”
