PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins signed 2018 second-round draft pick Calen Addison (53rd overall) to a three-year entry-level contract, Saturday it was announced by General Manager Jim Rutherford.

Addison’s ELC will become effective when the defenseman turns pro. He is currently skating with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL on an amateur tryout contract, which is common for juniors players after their season ends.

Addison, 18, was one of the top offensive defensemen available in the 2018 NHL Draft but fell to the second round because of the depth of talent available and because of his size. Addison is listed at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds but the weight may be a little exaggerated.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes defenseman ranked sixth among WHL blueliners with 65 points (11g, 54a) in 67 games. He scored nine points (2g, 7a) in seven playoff games. He produced the exact same regular season stat line in 2017-18, too.
