Penguins Unveil Stadium Series Jersey; Honors Bob Johnson

The Pittsburgh Penguins unveiled their Stadium Series sweater in advance of the Feb. 23 game at Lincoln Field against the Philadelphia Flyers and in the process honored their late coach Badger Bob Johnson.

The jersey is black with gold numbers, letters, and striping. In a twist, the logo is primarily gold.

Stenciled on the back in block letters is the phrase, “A Great Day for Hockey,” which is a tribute to Johnson who coached the Penguins to their first Stanley Cup in 1991. Known for his unbridled optimism and note taking on the bench, Johnson left an indelible mark on the organization. However, just months after the organization’s first Stanley Cup, Johnson passed away due to brain cancer.

The Penguins will wear the jersey again on the Mar. 17  against Philadelphia at PPG Paints Arena.
