Penguins vs. Canadiens Betting

On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (10-6-4) look to extend their season-long winning streak to six games when they host the Montreal Canadiens (5-15-2), at PPG Paints Arena. It’s the second of three meetings this season between the teams. Pittsburgh shutout the Canadiens 6-0 nine days ago in Montreal to start their current five-game winning streak.

Let’s get into our Penguins vs. Canadiens betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this November 27, 2021 matchup.

Penguins-Canadiens Preview

It’s been the same old story for the Penguins of late, and they don’t mind hearing it again and again.

Great goaltending. Strong defense. Solid puck possession. Opportune goals. and wins. Plenty of wins. It’s a formula that s working for Pittsburgh, and it continued Friday with a 1-0 shutout of the New York Islanders.

It was the third shutout in the last five games for Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry, who has been sensational. He’s let up just two goals in those five games and has stopped 141 of the 143 shots he’s faced for a save percentage of .986.

Meanwhile the Canadiens have lost 9-of-11 and two straight on their current three-game road trip that ends tonight in Pittsburgh.

They continue to be one of the worst defensive teams in hockey. They have allowed 3.64 goals per game, which ranks 31st in the NHL.

Oh, and they’re one of the worst offensive teams too, averaging just 2.18 goals per game, which ranks 30th in the league. The power play ranks 28th. The penalty kill ranks 29th.  Montreal made a deal with the Devil to get to the Stanley Cup Final last season, because this season they are putrid.

Bets We Like with a Penguins Win

Penguins to win by 3-plus goals (+220, BetMGM)

We’ve been pretty spot on of late picking games to be blow outs, and we think this is yet another mismatch that should favor Pittsburgh. The Penguins tend to cover the puck line coming off a road win, and have won five straight in that scenario when the games are played at night. The Penguins are rolling and shouldn’t slow down, even with Bryan Rust dropping out of the lineup with a lower body injury, and Jarry finally getting some rest as Casey DeSmith gets the nod in goal for the Penguins.

Bets We Like with a Canadiens Win

Canadiens +0.5 goals in the first period(-150, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Five straight Saturdays, when featured on Hockey Night in Canada, Montreal has flat out won the first period. They’re going to have to do that in order to surprise the Penguins and steal the game. We don’t like that probability, but the odds do improve slightly with DeSmith in net as opposed to Jarry. This is the best bet on the board involving Montreal, so if you are feeling frisky, go for it.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Total goals scored OVER 5.5 (-120, DraftKings Sportsbook)

It’s not like we think the Canadiens will suddenly find the magic touch and bust out for a touchdown or more. No. But DeSmith is no Jarry and is bound to give up a couple. That said, there is no doubt the Penguins will score on the Canadiens. It’s one of those that we think could get sloppy quickly and end with the Penguins pulling away. Either way, despite Montreal’s scoring troubles, this game should easily reach six goals and make you a winner.

Penguins vs. Canadiens Prediction

[bet-promo id=”23812″ ]

This one won’t be as lopsided as the 6-0 the final score nine days ago. Montreal will scrap and claw to try and avenge that loss, but in the end, Everything points to the Penguins here, and yet another victory.

Prediction: Penguins 5, Islanders 2
