Penguins vs. Flyers Betting Odds, Picks, Prediction (January 6, 2022)
On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (19-8-5) will look to extend their winning streak to 10 games when they visit the seriously undermanned Philadelphia Flyers (13-14-6), at Wells Fargo Center. It’s the second of four meetings between the Metropolitan Division rivals. Pittsburgh defeated the Flyers 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 4. A game scheduled between the teams on Dec. 23 was postponed because of COVID-19. It has not yet been rescheduled.
Let’s get into our Penguins vs. Flyers betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this January 6, 2022 matchup.

Penguins-Flyers Preview
The NHL cancels games if fans can’t attend, but if half a team can’t attend?
Play on!
The Flyers are down nine players – seven regulars and two depth players, six of which are in the COVID protocol. None of the six players have any symptoms. They are Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny, Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim, Nick Seeler and Jackson Cates.
On top of that they have injuries – not that you can cancel games because of injuries, but six players in COVID protocol on top of these injuries should be enough to say, let’s reschedule.
Alas, injuries to Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and Nate Thompson have the Flyers dressing a mostly AHL lineup tonight against a Penguins team that is on fire, having won nine straight.
This is as lopsided a matchup as the odds would indicate. As such, there’s not going to be too much to this betting preview today. It’s going to be the Penguins winning easy. We will do our best to find some props though that could pay some dividends for you.

Bets We Like with a Penguins Win
Penguins to win by more than 2.5 goals (+185, BetMGM)
[bet-promo id=”24578″ ]
You can take the Penguins to win. Don’t be gun shy of that -250. But you aren’t going to get a great return there. If you want to improve your odds, and swing them into your favor, beat with a spread. And not just the traditional -1.5 either. We recommend you pushing it further – to -2.5. You get great odds there and the Penguins are scoring a lot since the pause ended, and those have been against NHL defense. The Flyers will only be starting two of their top six defensemen in this game (Rasmus Ristolainen and Justin Braun).
It’s hard to imagine Pittsburgh won’t get a ton of chances to score and score at least three goals and then maybe an empty netter to cover the spread? That’s assuming Carter Hart is on his game for the Flyers. If he’s off, it could be even worse. This game could be 5-1, or 6-1. Heck, giving the Flyers one is generous tonight.

Bets We Like with a Flyers Win
Carter Hart OVER 30.5 saves (-122, FanDuel Sportsbook)
[bet-promo id=”23805″ ]
All right, all right… the Flyers aren’t winning this game. But if they have even the slimmest of chances, it will require Hart to put on a Herculean performance in goal and will likely have to shut out the Penguins, or at most allow one goal for his team to have a chance to win.
Still, even if he isn’t the virtuoso the Flyers will need him to be, Hart is going to face a lot of shots. He’s better the more shots he faces too, so that’s a plus for the Flyers, but we can see Pittsburgh topping 40 shots easy in this game. Unless Hart is blown out and yanked in this game, he should get 31 saves easy.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome
Sidney Crosby to score at least one goal ( +170, DraftKings Sportsbook)
[bet-promo id=”23817″ ]
Bryan Rust has scored five goals in his last two games. Evan Rodrigues has six goals in the last five. It would be easy to pick one of them to stay hot against the undermanned Flyers. And maybe if the opponent was anyone else besides Philadelphia, we would have.
Alas, when it comes to playing the Flyers, especially in Philadelphia, there is one guy who always seems to score – and that’s Crosby.
In 77 career games against the Flyers, Crosby has 49 goals and 115 points. That’s crazy.
And he’s scored at least one goal in eight of the Penguins last nine games in Philadelphia.
How can you not bet this tonight considering that?

Penguins vs. Flyers Prediction
[bet-promo id=”23812″ ]
We can’t believe that we actually have to sit inside the Wells Fargo Center and watch this clunker tonight. You have to feel bad for fans who are paying top dollar to watch what amounts to an NHL vs. AHL exhibition.
Pittsburgh wins this going away.
The only thing that could possibly save the Flyers from a complete and utter blowout here is Hart stranding on his head and the fact that the Penguins played last night and are going back-to-back with travel, something that has happened to the Penguins twice already this year and they scored a total of four goals in the two games on the back end.
But, in neither instance were they facing a team this depleted and bereft of actual NHL talent. This should be a cakewalk for Pittsburgh.
Prediction: Penguins 4, Flyers 1
